DOC, Is the Coiltek 14" DD coil for the GP3500 Waterproof?

Hi DOC,

I just got the 14" DD coil for my GP3500 and was wondering if it is waterproof?

Thanks,
Reifer

You can slop it around in puddles and use it in the rain, but it is not guaranteed to be waterproof.

I have lightly submerged my coils with no problems, however, if you did happen to develop a pinhole leak in the plastic and got moisture in there you would wreck the coil.

Doc. Is there any intention by any of the coil makers to increase the range od waterproof coils?
It isnt rocket science technology and would be a good selling point. I see it as the best feature of the DD Platypus.

Dave, I had a watch that was water resistant down to 10-metres.
Darned thing leaked pretty good in the shower.

what is it that makes a coil waterproof anyway?

Well there are other waterproof coils in the line. The UFO, the mini UFO, the Mother Ship, are all waterproof. But in a word, YES, there are more coils in the works based on the Platypus.

Take care!

Having a waterproof range will be a great market advantage for Coiltek.

Realistically there is not a great deal of difference, performance wise, between Coiltek, Nugget Finder and Minelab coils.
The technology is well known and the choice comes down to configuration, size and weight.

I have opted for a NF 14" mono eliptical because it is light and that size and shape is best for my needs.
However, NF's lack a little in robustness and crack easily which is the trade off for the weight advantage.

By having a waterproof range Coiltek will get itself a better slice of market share. I will get one at some stage as an option for dewy grass and shallow waterholes after the wet season. It will probably not be my first coil of choice but I, like many other operators will get one for the flexibility of use it offers.
