Do you try to find the owner? How?

I'm new to this hobby having started this year and found a few things of value which I just kept. However Tuesday I found a man's wedding band and desided to post a found ad on Craigs List. Would you do the same or more?

I hunt a local freshwater beach here in the summer and when I find a ring I put an ad in the local paper in the "found" column, I have never tried anything else but you do have a good idea. I think it is great of you to put forth the effort.

Honestly if I find it, its mine. Unless someone comes up to me and asks if I can find a lost ring and shows me the area to look then I would help them out and give it to them if I find it. But that's just me.

I have a large man's 14K wedding band I found last year in the water at a local beach.

There are initials and a date.

That is enough specific information (initials, date, man's ring, 14K, yellow gold, wedding band and which beach and maybe on dry land or in the water too if need be) for me to post notices and spread "the word" in the small community where the beach is located.

I know many of the families that have summer cottages there.

When I get the proper ID info from the owner I will return the ring bringing my total returns to 31.
