Do you think my T2 is defective?

George (MN)

When I use disc mode, if I use preset disc of 10 & preset sensitivity of 60, it makes noise continuously. When I turned disc up to 40, it was unable to get my 6" deep test dime, which my XL Pro & Coinstrike heard easily, though at least it was stable.

If I turned the disc above 60, there was constant flashing numbers. In all metal, it beeped every time on my 6" deep test dime, but the visual IDs were sometimes blank, and when it showed visual ID, it was anywhere from iron to zinc. When I tried to turn up sens in all metal above 60, again unstable. I did do the ground balance, and checked all 7 frequencies. Defective? Operator error? Id so, what might I have overlooked? Thanks! constantly in disc mode, (only when coil is in motion), disc 40 (seems best), in my moderately mineralized ground. I really don't think I can get the air test claims or ID at depth claims they seem so certain of in the manual. Thanks for any replies. HH, George (MN)

Are you testing the T2 outdoors? Have you tried a different location?

The T2 is sensitive and can be susceptible to nearby electrical interference that may not affect other detectors. Be sure you are well away from obvious sources such as power lines, antennas, transformers, etc. when you test it.

Hi George,

It happens, Sometimes the T-2 can't handle strange interference so try operating the detector at another location. Nearby park or school?

I had the same problem last night at the demo, Had to reduce the sens and find the best freq until the detector clamed down. It appears the city has a major electrical source nearby, After making the proper adjustments the T-2 operated fine with excellent results. Just couldn't crank up the sens but still had enough depth and great separation to make the hunt worthwhile.

Try another area, Could be your home has too much outside interference for these two filter machines.

wiggle the connection where the cable connects to the control box. Mine was doing the same thing and I finally called First Texas and the immediately told me to do that and it fixed it. I thought I had it tight enough but I didn't. Also I was having a hard time getting it to GC in fastrac.

Maybe this will help.

If not, what is the reading for iron in the ground?

The T2 is a noisy and very sensitive machine compared to others I have used and it nearly drove me nuts for the first couple of weeks. Stay with it.

Well if you are doing this and it happens when you swing, it means it's mineralization, otherwise it's electrical interference.

But frankly, if it's doing that all the time, it sounds like you have a problem. I get some electrical interference from time to time at a few sites, but at most areas mine is pretty stable. The settings you are using should in general be very smooth, so I think there is some kind of a problem with your T2.

I'm also assuming you have a set of fresh batteries in. When my first set went, the machine went wacko until I replaced them, then it settled down and ran great.
