how long did it take you to find your first coin with your mxt, i was out for three hours today never found one but did dig up a lot of cans, i suck at this but im not giving up ill hit it again tommorow

You have to swing your coil over a coin to detect it. Go to a nearby park and detect the tot lots around the swings and other items for kids to play on. You may find some jewelry also.

Bryan, You really know how to make the minds think. Larry and I were trying to think where I 'first' detected with my MXT. Oh my..... We can't remember. I do know that it seemed so much lighter than the White's Liberty DI that he bought from his brother for me to use. Possibly first time at the wood chip playgrounds. That's where I learned a lot about the MXT. I first started off with a Radio Shack AKA Bounty Hunter and I found enough to pay for that machine over and over again. What a great hobby! HH to all, Nancy

Don't give up, stay at it you will be finding the good stuff after awhile. It take research also. I had been detecting for gold quite a few years before I bought my MXT and I thought the same thing, WOW what am I doing wrong it took me over a month to find my first coin but I was just hunting in the wrong places...............

One of the places that I like to hit that many forget is the edge of the sidewalk. You will always find coins & rings there. Watch for the vdi of 20 that locks on at 20 & will not move. get that & you have your first nickle.

thanks for all the info, i need all the help and advice i can get thanks again bryan

Remember the first coin from 25 years ago............heck Bryan.......I'm at that age where I can't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday.

Hit those play grounds buddy and dig those "goose honk" signals, you will do just fine.

I know exactly what you mean Larry.........................

Hi:
You will find your share of goodies in time. Just keep at it and you will do great.<p> I remember it was a while before I found my first coins and they were in my own yard.

Heck my first coin with the MXT was a 41 walking liberty half in the middle of a cow pasture looking for civil war relics. it nailed it 6 inches deep with the 4x6 coil on. so it's hot on coins just gotta get over one.If you want to dig a coin theres no better place than you're front yard I probably dug over 70 coins in my front yard when I first started hunting back in the 70's with a bounty hunter . there out there bud by the thousands and thousands just get in the right spots. If you're just starting to swing a detector stay out of the trashy areas or you will burn out quick.Once you dig a few coins you'll get the hang of it.those cans are loud and read like a coin on a meter but there just to big to be a coin listen for those real tight hits. try the relic mode also it will tell you alot about target size by the all metal and disc running together. coins will hit about the same time as the disc side and will be a real tight signal about 2 inches wide. a can you'll hear it coming 10 inches either side of the actual target.

Bury some coins and listen to the way they sound then bury a can and see if you can tell a difference.Dont give up if you do you'll miss out on having the the time of you're life.

The only thing I have found in bark at tot lots is tinfoil. Lots and lots of tin foil.

Go to the tot park and look under those bars where the kids hang upside down..... guaranteed to find some coins smile. Throw you a coin out on the ground and "listen" to the sound....the crisp signal that beeps fast and falls off. Those big cans etc do not sound like that. The beepppppp holds on for longer and are not quick and crisp.

I can't remember my first coin with the MXT, but I can remember VIVIDLY my first find with a metal detector. It came in the form of a Russian land mine I located in Viet-nam in 1968. I have been involved with metal detecting ever since. Keep reading your detector's manual and everything will come together. HH Dennis in Idaho
