Do You Prefer To Detect With A Buddy(s) Or Do You Prefer To Detect Alone?

I mostly hunt alone. Seems like every time I take someone with me they find all the good stuff, Sometimes I invite people along if the area we are hunting is sketchy.

A prefer a buddy. But only trusted buddies.
Can't stand to scout a place and find new locations, only to have a "buddy" go back without telling you and dig your new location.

Why do I prefer a "buddy"?

Because of good company and help in a bad situation.
I've fell down steel hill sides, in mud and water.
Once even managed to find myself in a swarm of yellow jackets.
I needed the buddy to drive us back home.

I prefer digging with a trusted buddy. Adds to the fun of messing with one another when one of use dig a good find. Especially when swinging different detectors.

John, I hunt alone for several reasons. When I first started detecting, my buddies would want to leave in the first 30 minutes if they did not find anything. I have some medical issues and on some days, I start feeling bad and have to head for home. There is nothing worse than driving an hour and just getting started only to have to quit. I have had my buddies meet me at a spot and then we can do our own thing if things don't work out.

Yep I agree RLOH. Independence of leaving, or staying, does have it's good points.

I prefer to hunt with a friend, as some of the you go to used to be nice places, but with all the homeless and other bums. Been out detecting and had a few big guys come up to me and tell me I was leaving holes that his son went into and broke his foot. I was trying to tell him that, that hole was caused by a broken sprinkler and filled back in as the grass was growing back when my buddy showed up with his Lesche digger in his hand. He told me that I was about to get it as the three of them had circled me.

its a matter of where. one buddy has health issues but is great to hunt with. we hunt where he is comfortable. Flat and level... with single cup earphones and shift freqs not to crosstalk. SAFETY IN NUMBERS. area can get sketchy. I hunt alone in a rough terrain area because its private property and they will not let even family hunt there. I have hunted it about out with good finds. but people know where to find me and are told when I go and leave, and I carry safety gear. survivalist stuff. and armed... wild hogs are bad in Georgia. so its a matter of common sense. even alone I have someone that can find me.

the camaraderie though is priceless ...what its all about. I would like to see someone find the goodies than they be lost forever...

I've always hunted alone because I have to go sometimes due to health or other circumstances, but would like to try detecting with some friends some time. I was cooking a meal a few weeks ago and got what I called a sign I need to go water detecting or dirt fishing as soon as possible. Look at the photo of the hoecake cornbread that I cooked and see what you think. Sign to go dirt fishing or fantasy?

I like to hunt with a buddy if his style is similar to my own. I won't hunt with someone that refuses to remove his dug trash or leaves his holes open. I guess that I am a hard core detectorist and don't like to quit early just because I don't find something of value quickly. So many detectorists want to go home early if they aren't finding the big one.

It all depends on location if I hunt alone and the time of day. Sometimes I hunt alone, but prefer at times hunting with a friend as things change.

Sometimes it’s better to be alone, stay more focused and pretty much go where you want, taking breaks when you want, spend the whole day detecting at your own pace and keep those hot spots a secret. It’s very difficult to find someone who has the same focus and endurance that you have. I do on occasion like to take the grandkids and do a little fishing and detecting the same day.

If I could find a good hunting partner I would probably take on more sketchy areas. I do it now in some places however I am extremely familiar with the best times and days to go. Oh and my lesche digger has saved the day more then once :smoke: Seeing is believing

I have attended club hunts and years ago detected with a regular friend. The club hunts can be distracting and I left our club, my regular partner died but fortunately my wife became interested and we spend a lot of time out together, and strangely enough our finds rate is going up.
I look forward to looking in her finds pouch as she has a very laid back attitude as to what comes up. Recently she was quite pleased as she had recovered a cat badge...cat badge , a 700 year old medieval retainers badge in good condition and extremely rare.
