do you notice more interference with the 10x12 SEF coil as opposed to the stock coil on GT

I was thinking of getting a 10x12 and was wondering how it handles interference , I heard it was not good , apparently the deal on those coils is over now , i got a cold reception from kellyco and was told it now is 179.00 plus 14.95 shipping and i was reminded that in time past i returned two coils , so i would get no break this time the other coils worked badly on my M-6 so i returned them so I am a bit reserved about spending that much money and finding it may be just some hype wish thear was a coil library . as for kellyco they have not made a costomer of me but the revers but since they are the only ones who have it i may buy one anyway provided i get the facts first,

Gunnar I see no difference as far as interference goes between the SEF coils and the stock minelab coils. I use them on my Sov and my Explorer and really like them. Since youve had them on another machine and had problems in your area I would try and locate someone near you who has one so you can see yourself.
I dont think any company likes items returned, they then have to sell them used. Ive had very good relations with kellyco over the years and would not hesitate to buy from them, but I do agree it would be great if others also carried the SEF coils.
Can any of you remember when just Kellyco could mail order the minelabs? Thats going back a bit isnt it:blink:
Well, it is what it is and we just have to deal with it.

Gunnar you can also post up for a used one, try it and if you dont like it resell it. You wont take much if any of a financial hit that way.

Gunnar,

None whatsoever - in my case....... I run the SEF 'hotter' than I can get with the stock and there are no interference problems, the SEF is more stable. But I note from some of your reports that you hunt in 'all metal' which I don't do, so whether that would make any difference I don't know. But I can't envisage a situation where the SEF reacts to interference any more than the stock.

Because of the weather my SEF hasn't had that much usage since I bought it - looks like tonight will give me reasonable weather and a low tide....

I know there is a some that swear by this coil and been considering trying one too, but is this all hype like many of the produce we have seen from Kellyco. I tried one of Kellyco Concentric coil for my Sovereigns and was not impressed at all and exchanged it for another one as I felt it was a bad coil, but it was no better. I had done a Field test for another company of a Concentric coil a year before and loved it, but they decided not to make it at this time and thought the Concentric of Kellyco would work about the same, but it sure wasn't as nice.
Now on my Explorers I wanted to try the 12X10 SEF coil as it was bragged up to be so great, but by my mistake I ordered the 15X12 as I checked the wrong box and this coil was a little clumsy, but was a very good coil. I sold it because i didn't use it much as it was big and got the 8X6 SEF and it seems to be OK on my E-Trac with no complaint. I have seen where some coils for the Explorers work good, but on the Sovereign they don't work that great and this is why i too would like a lot more info on the 12X10 SEF coil before i try one and if the the sale for us Findmall user is no longer, then I will just have to get another S-12 of Sun Ray as I know those work great for me and feel it will be hard to beat, but was going to try a 12X10 if enough good info and the price is right.
I hope to see some good info from those that know their Sovereigns and have tried other coil to compare with.

I've found that to be true- That the SEF seems to get less interference than the stock coil. I know I can run mine hotter with a higher sensitivity setting at some places without falsing than I could the 10" Tornado. I've also read that "egg" shaped and other non-round coils tend to pick up less interference.

thanks J W it really does seem this coil is not just a gimmick, if I can pull ahead i will get one

Depends on the site at the end of the day. Ive been on sites where Ive had a bigger coil on and I have been able to crank up the sens, Other sites Ive had to back it right off to 3 oclock, Stick on the stock 10inch and I could get the sens upto 10 oclock!
