Do You Like to Hunt with Tide Coming In or Going Out?

Hello,

I am going to try beach hunting somewhere around the Monteray Bay area (Carmel, Santa Cruz, etc in California). We are planning to leave in mid-October. I have read many of your posts. Problem is, my eyes are giving out! My spouse and I are novices to beach hunting. We've hunted mostly land and some river shore.

Do you hunt when the tide is going out vs coming in? It seems like that would be the case, but would like to hear your opinions.

Also, if you know of any other links, websites, etc that would help me with learning to beach hunt, I would really appreciate the information.

What equipment to take, type of clothing to take, etc. We would only be hunting either the beach or ankle/knee deep water. No scuba.
I'd also like to find places in that area to rent equipment and/or find out more information.

I did sign up for Kinzli's forum, but apparently have to wait for approval to use the website.
I'd sure appreciate your help.

Thanks!

Both, Ideally, last couple of hours down and the low then a couple of hours up, nothing worse than finding a spot just as its being covered as you dig by the incomming tide

As Kered said, 2 hours before low tide, follow it out.

When the tide starts to come in again I will look for my marked areas where I have dug a few holes in clusters - those are the area's I will go back and grid......... despite beach area's being in a constant state of ground movement they do have habits.

I'm no expert but like the above said I like to follow the tide out and when I find heavier targets (sinkers, gold hopefully, quarters) slow down because those targets settled there for some reason. Any small change in the sand or beach can make a huge difference in your finds. Just hunt and have fun and you will get rewarded. HH :minelab:
