Do you know what your missing using a Tesoro??

A boatload of bottlecaps...

I "upgraded" recently to another brand & got a DD coil to go with it. I had heard the issues of caps with DD coils & I assume Tesoro's using a DD have the same issue.

But I went to a park I had "cleaned out" while learning to use my Tesoro last year. I figured the new machine might grab some more goodies.

I found nothing old & likely its just a luck of the draw. The areas I had scoured did not yield any signifigant finds. But the caps-Oh my the bottlecaps....I could pass them up after a bit using the edge of the coil to draw out the iron signal. But more work than just digging them up & hopefully unmasking something good.So I dug them.

It's a tradeoff for better coverage at depth-but frankly for trashy areas the Tesoro really shines at picking out good targets & leaving the junk behind.

There is something about this brand that is very attractive to me. It just screams FUN and I love how fast they are. I can't see myself using another brand. I think the Vaquero is my next machine. If it only had multiple tones, it would be IDEAL for me.

I dug 2 caps along with a bunch of tabs yesterday with a vaq. They're just the right size to be worth digging and I can't pass them up..

On my Silver & Troy X2 they usually don't make more than a blip. The rusty ones usually fail the "Tesoro shake" test. But once in a while the deep rusty ones pass the dig or not tests & I'm used to that. But the other machine-which has good depth & target ID-loves the things like peanuts. I was amazed how many there were in an area I had hunted a lot with my Tesoro's.

I realize they are possibly masking targets & this park gave me my oldest American coin - a nice 1877 seated dime.So I may take to digging caps hoping to get lucky.

Towards the end of my time there I took my Silver U-max with 7" coencentric-so much easier on the nerves without all the feedback. And it just hits hard on the good stuff. I use the all metal & flip back to check the target with minimum disc. If a sub 4" target breaks up on a fast sweep I pass. I just go by ewag on depth by sound.Like I said-most caps break up after a fast swipe & that's why I left so many behind when they did ring in at all.

Edit to add:

Went to a play area hoping to round out or salvage the day with some bling-nada. But the funny thing was walking on a wooden plank area between chip play areas the nails were about 1/2" apart on the boards. I had it in all metal & I could here every nail blip blip blip-The target seperation is awsome & definitely a major factor in thier ability to produce.

Try a Compadre-setting it to where they break up and anything near them should give a signal. It doesn't have the high gain circuitry and this will help it under these conditions.

The only bottlecaps I have dug with my Silver
