Just curious what you guys do with your non coin finds like keys, old costume jewelry, toy cars, etc. I have a pretty good pile of items from the last few years that are too cool to throw away, but what can I do with them? maybe I should get better pictures of my stuff and see if anyone collects
some of the items I have. I would like to hear what others do with their finds.............thanks

Roger

I will save anything that I think is older than I am (42).... whether it's worth absolutely nothing or not. All of the iron gets tossed and copper gets saved for desperate times ... like WWIII or something. If you are'nt interested in keeping it ... have a yard sale. You'd be surprised at what you could get for it ..

Clad gets turned into cash, gold and silver goes into the chest, everything else is either scrap metal or trash.

Just wondering-have you been successful selling your costume jewelry at garage sales? Thanks. And great idea.

OK, you asked for it!! Here is a picture of one side of my front porch.

ALL those drawers are loaded with you name it EVERYTHING!! I bought that piece at a college sale for 5.00. One drawer has keys, one locks, one old lipstick tubes, swim belt buckles, hair barrettes, another boat parts, 2 are full of oar locks, one full of pipes and drug stuff, and one jewelry and two old eating utensils. Lots of other things in the others. Badges, old police handcuffs (found underwater), bullets, watches and whistles, knives and lighters, you name it!!

On top, I have a lot of other odds and ends like a plastic tub of glasses, Jar of marbles and tokens. The Surrender the booty flag was on the bottom of a lake.

LOL you get the idea!!, I have a huge container of tools, over 50 boat anchors beside my house, about 20 old horse shoes, 4 brass propellers and LOL as I said you name it I have it!!!

One reason I keep a lot of stuff is a few of the great things I tossed over the years and almost tossed. I found a weird piece of metal shaped like an L with copper wire on it in Utah. Tossed it and only found out from a picture later, I junked an old cannon friction primer. When we had a detecting party at my house one year, a friend looked through my junk box and found a badge all caked with sand. He saw 2 crossed swords on it. LOL we boiled it in peroxide and found out it was a beautiful shape WW2 German wound badge. How it ended up in a lake in Michigan, who knows!!

I toss a lot of old brass in a bucket and take it to the scrap yard. I got 40.00 for half a bucket of brass shells, shotgun shell bottoms, buckles that I have way too many of, and other odds and ends.

So yes I have an absolutely huge collection of odds and ends. And sometimes I like to just look at them and see if I have another old goodie that's worth something hidden away. Those pictures of the drawers are a year old. I have a drawer full of locks and a drawer full of guns now. My real guns I have found are in a display cabinet in my house, along with my real old toys.

I toss all the trash I find, unless it is scrap metal. All the clad goes in a piggy bank, the precious metals go in a small wooden chest, and the novaluable, but interesting finds go in a larger wooden chest. I think I am gonna need a larger wooden chest.

Wow scubadetector, that is a very impressive diplay of finds you have there. While I only have a fraction of what you have I still hate throwing away anything that may have value. There seems to be a collector for almost anything you find, so it might help pass away the winter months
sorting my stuff and seeing if I can hook up with collectors of some of the various items I have. Thanks for the ideas..........

Roger

We bought a couple of 2 or 3 gallon glass jars for the worthless but interesting stuff. It makes a nice display and when company asks if we have ever found anything interesting................ they love to look at the stuff and we have had more than one person want to dump some of it out on a towel and go through it. They are great conversation pieces.

The old toy cars are saved but the good newer ones are recycled back to kids by the bagfuls. Copper and brass goes into the 5 gallon bucket to recycle and the "keepers" are put into 2x2 holders, and vinyl pages and then note-booked by year.

Slingshot .... Not so much with the costume jewelry, but I have a couple who own a restaurant that is full of antiques on the wall & ceiling etc... who will buy some of my stuff if it can be cleaned-up a little. Not getting rich by any stretch, but every little bit helps !

And ANOTHER great idea! Thanks.

My space is limited, but I have a small chest on my dresser for the interesting little things. Recently went through it all and a few small toys and cars were in good shape so they went to the Salvation Army with our regular periodic donations. I cull my finds at home after each outing. Clad goes to the battery fund (on which the prices are steadily rising by the way on the Duracell 9 volts only).

I guess I'll have to find meeself a neat little treasure chest the next time I'm out relic hunting.

I keep all of my finds and wouldnt sell a Civil War Relic. To me, its about saving history; not selling it. I do occassionally TRADE some of them to other diggers for relic(s) that I dont have. cch

You can display small stuff in a frame like this. A little glue holds them in place. I still have more nice stuff to frame.

jabbo, thanks for the idea on the keys. I have found several that would look good displayed like yours.

nice filing system there scuba...... trash gets thrown.....relics and whatzits get put on a pile,, coins go into a basket...... gold-the wife gets first crack at either trading up 1 of the 5 rings i gave her or she is not interested it will be scrapped with any other gold imight find-which isnt really a whole heck of alot.... one thing i wished i would have done earlier with my colonial finds is to keep them seperated by site........i did this at one site ...its amazing when look back at what you have found at one particular site...... unfortunatly alot of the stuff from several other sites is kinda on a bigg pile and i often get confused as to which item came from which site......
