Do you guys ever wonder

If the big boys will ever find a way to put aluminum in the same discrimination category as iron? I've been detecting a little over 40 years now and the biggest pain in the butt back then was iron. They've pretty much alleviated those symptoms. You've got to admit, nowadays, aluminum is our biggest hemorrhoid. Do you folks ever wonder about this or is it just me?

I guess you're right Elton you devil you. We should be patient and wait for a detector with a Poof mode.

I am afraid that I may not live long enough to be able to acquire one of those detectors with the Poof mode. My MD told me that there was no reason that I should not live to be 100. That is definitely not far enough in the future to suit me.

I'm in sympathy with the desire, but the laws of physics are pretty much unbreakable so we're probably stuck with aluminum headaches.

I just want to throttle those people who run over pop and beer cans with lawnmowers .. :stretcher: :lmfao:

Yeah, i wonder about that all the time. My biggest issue is not aluminium but deep corroded iron falsing as silver.
I gave up finding gold in the pull tab infested parks around here and discriminated it out along with most aluminium.
In those junky parks, i have a nickel notch in the discrimination pattern, if it catches a nickel or not, so be it.

The detector company that can develop a new cost effective technology to disciminate aluminum and iron 100% will own the detector market.

Ironsight, you might want to think again about discriminating aluminum #'s out. I detected this ring 3 weeks ago and it ID-ed at a solid 15 which is either a nickel or a pull tab on a Safari. All I can say is I'm glad I dug this 15 signal!

I would never knock out Aluminium or foil, the main reason being is that over here in the UK most of our silver hammered coins come in that range,of course if you hunt say park or areas that will have a high content of Aluminium cans etc then not alot you can do about it reall as once again many decent finds also could be lost as the previous poster has mentioned he could have lost that stunning ring that he has found.

These days i only use the smallest amount of discrimination and only just enough to knock out small iron items like small nails, large iron items it makes no odds what make of detector you use it will always give you a decent ignal its just one of those things we have to live with, but you do have to dig them all just incase, the more items you knock out or notch out as you folks call it you stand to increase loosing decent targets as well.

Of course this is my personal thoughts and opinion.

I hear you Goldstrike and Mega B!
Yep no doubt, I probably walked over some gold over the years but a few gold rings ain't gonna make me or break me. For me its just a hobby, something to do.

Being primarily a park hunter, i'd have to dig a thousand pulltabs to find a piece of gold then a pleasant hobby becomes a PITA hobby. I'm not kidding, the parks around here are infested with pull tabs with some areas having numerous pull tabs per sqr. foot.

I tried digging the first dozen gold or aluminum hits for a long while and got nothing to show but sore arms.
So, i'll leave the gold for you all willing to do the digging. Just after the silver and other keepers.

Now if i were a beach hunting, you bet i'd dig every one of those gold/aluminum IDs as i do when i occassionally relic hunt.

I agree with the upper posts. To many targets fall into every discriminating modes. Mostly GOLD..... I'm a beach hunter so it's easy to dig targets compared to dirt digging. It's funny I have a buddy that will see an aluminum # on his meter and doesn't dig it and can't figure why he never finds gold and I do....
