Do you folks ever hunt random fields?

Yes I have hunted some random fields in my day (with permission of course) and still do. Living where I do just outside Richmond, Va. when I see fresh cut fields or land that's been cleared and turned into a field or a preamble to a parking lot I just know there's a relic in there somewhere. Some have paid off some have not. But, it's better to give it a swing than not.
HH, Bill

Not many. I make my living hunting "hunted out" sites. Lol.

If a spot looks good, permission granted, hunt it.....mark it off your list of places you think might have relics.

Sometimes it pays off, and sometimes it doesn't! Just part of the hobby. I've heard of some old timers who are tired of hunting the same areas which is fine by me because they still turn up relics. One thing to remember that works for me is persistence. I just don't think some of the old school hunters can hang anymore ha....things aren't as easy as it used to be, a little work goes along way.
