Do you edit the Bible ?

The apostle Peter echoed this thought when he said, "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). The apostle Paul said the same thing: "For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5).

If I say that to people, maybe they will be offended. But then again, maybe they will believe. Who am I to edit the gospel? Who am I to say, "Lord, we need to update this whole thing for the new century." We need to give the gospel message and not change it, not even one little bit.

It is my belief that we are definatly in the last days with the trumpet out of its case ready to be blown. I would like to see a good revival take place in my life time but from the way I see things, that isn't going to happen. For several reasons:

You can't really find "lost" people anymore. When you go out on visitation or handing out tracts, it seems everybody will say they have been saved. Very rarely do you have somebody just come out and say they are lost. The trouble is alot of things but mostly...the people "have need of nothing".

And maybe another good reason is that the context in which they have been approached and witnessed two. There is a time for preaching it as law and there is a time for preaching it as grace. Using Jesus as the example, he preached law to the proud and grace to the humble. What do you think would have probably happened if Jesus would have went to the woman at the well and said (paraphrasing) "Hey you harlot, give me some water". We need to be able to recognize when to preach what. When you find someone loaded with pride...that's when you use God's law. But someone humbled...grace works.

The other reason may be that people just do not realize what they need to be saved from or why they are "going to hell" in the first place. Man kind has a way of trying to justify and catagorize sin. Such as we'll say that telling a lie is a smaller offense than getting drunk and falling into temptation of fornication or adultry. In God's eyes it is all sin...all equal. So sometimes it is hard for someone to realize God would send them to an eternal hell for maybe telling a few lies in their life time while not doing anything else that bad. Back when I was lost, if you just walked up to me and told me that I was going to hell if I did not get accept Jesus and get saved because he is the way and the life...I would look at you like you were crazy. EVEN though that statement is bluntly true...the average lost person does not comprehend what you just said.

It would be like me walking up to someone and saying "hey I got good news...I have this cure to a really bad disease that if you accept this cure you wont die". People will look at me like I am coo coo. Even if you were really sincere...people do not realize that sin itself is a disease. BUT if you showed them first that they had the disease...and that the disease brings on certain death...they might listen to you when you tell them you know the cure.

You could start by just showing them a few scriptual things. I mean you could do it in a questionaire like thing..."have you ever told a lie?" in which everyone will admit they have. Then you say "didn't you know that God said thou shalt not lie, so wouldn't that make you a liar"? Ask if they have stolen anything. Most will get prideful here and say no...some will say yes...if they say no, you tell them something like "well why should I believe you...you just admitted to being a liar" and that usually brings a laugh. But in short you can show them with God's word by small things that they have sinned against God. In short you could say afterwards "for ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of God". So now you say that doing sin is natural...for ALL have sinned...but that the penalty of sin is death "for the wages of sin is death" and that death being cast into the lake of fire for eternity. But there is good news...the debt for those wages was paid for you 2005 years ago at calvary...and all that he asked was that whosoever will, call upon the name of the Lord, ask for forgiveness. All you have to do is realize you have sinned against God...and that he sent his only begotten Son to pay the price for you and I with his blood, and that in 3 days he arose and is living and coming back. You see...by doing that...you tell them about the deadly disease of sin...you point out to them that you can visibly see several symptoms of the disease on them...and then you tell them about the cure.

I have found that in reading the Gospels that Jesus was rejected, humiliated and alienated during his physical tenure on earth. He even told us that if people did that to HIM then they certainly would do that to us.

BUT....how mahy times have we read where all walks of life believed? Hmmmmm. Bill Bright once said that one in 18 will come. And, you know, Jesus didn't give us a success ration in order for Him to be pleased by our actions. With every stonewalling...with every rejection...with every venomous response, I just think, "Hey, Johnboy, there's one down the sidewalk or down the road...one that is truly searching for the Truth.

Jesus Christ could have used the internet, billboards, TV, Radio...but he told US, his sheep that KNOW and HEAR His voice, to "go..."

It is the most important and awesome commandment I have ever heard. His people must tell His message His way so that our friends who are blinded by this world might hear and believe!

Christain = Christ-like. Be honest, straightforward and ready to give the answer to sincere seekers of Him. He said, "If you love me, keep my commandments." Someone might be reading and thinking, "I'm not good at it," or "I don't think I can witness to strangers." I just remind you that "you can do all things" through His power, His grace, His law and his love. Go to livingwaters.com, listen to "Hell's Best Kept Secret" at least a couple of times and find out how the Master witnessed and your ministry will change...F O R E V E R.

Thanks, Pastor, for invoking this response from an occasional lurker of this forum. :D <><

I generally hang out the findsmall Story Forum. Y'all come and see us some time and tell us a story. It could use a little more Christian influence now and again.

Blessings to all

...have no fear of God for they see themselves as not having a need for the Gospel. They see themselves a people who don't rape, rob and pillage...they don't sell drugs to little kids and therefore they are a MUCH better person that that ole' two-faced church member down the street.

It is only when they come face to face with God's law that they realize they have truly sinned and are separated from God. They have been judging themselves by the world's standard of "good" and not God's standard.

The only way they will find the Light is for it to be shown to them--gently, lovingly but powerfully if need be.

It's like you stated: They see no need to seek a cure for a disease they don't think they really have. In this generation of false prophets and cotton-candy Christianity being preached (the feel-good stuff without speaking of Hell and judgment to come) I'm tellin you all..."How will they find Truth except we tell them????"

Goto livingwaters.com click on HBKS and listen to a life-changing message that all Christians need to emblazon upon their heart of hearts! <><
