do you document your finds?

hello everyone. do you document your finds? how important do you think it is? do you think what you document now will be relevant later on? i went for many years without documenting a thing. as i get older, i've noticed my memory isn't as good as it used to be. i'm paying dearly for it now. i finally started to write everything down and trying to preserve the pieces in my collection during the winter months. it's the old game called catch - up. i understand treasurefiend has a good spreadsheet for finds, but i'm not ready for that yet. your thoughts on this matter, please. hh,

So far I

I have not found anything significant enough to warrant keeping a log...Most of my finds have been clad and junk...No Gold, and very little Silver...Hopefully when the Land Star comes back from First Texas, we can change all of that...

i like to take pics of my finds and to date the pics. keep them it a scrap book with the info...what machine, where it was found. how deep, and maybe any research i have done on any item...not so much for documentation but also for sentiment reasons. look back at what i have found.

Well Sir the thought has crossed my mind that a spreadsheet or notebook would be really cool. The reality of the situation is me throwing my goodies in a treasure chest whenever my pouch gets full enough to force the extra effort from me. Who would care about my notebook in 20 years? Nobody at my house. Would a notebook require time and effort? Yes and I would rather be hunting, napping, etc. For me it's enough to know that my treasure chest is filling up. Who cares. I don't even post much anymore about my finds. I started taking it all very seriously so not posting has eliminated my having 'bragging rights'. I needed that. I would however build a small shadow box IF I ever found anything worthy of such an honor...that might get me to write.

I keep a small spiral notebook that I keep a log of my finds in. In my log I write the location searched, date, items found, detector settings used and any special notes or things of interest. I also make notes of posible future search sites, contacts etc.

I kept track of clad last year just for giggles.. wrote the date and denominations and all that into a spiral notebook...It was a good thing to do just to set a goal and see exactly how much clad a guy could grab in a typical year hunting...I water hunt all summer, so not much clad during those months, but just generally dinking around, I got 10,200 coins for 802.16......really poured on the effort in November I recall, and went right up into late december to hit that 10K...so at least now I know...I did not keep the notebook though, it was just for my own idea how much clad can a guy get if he had to?
