Do you dig every pull tab

Hello everybody, I'm new here, was just wondering if you dig all pull tabs.I have yet to find a piece of jewelry or ring.I have a MTX . I know of a Infant gold Ring that was lost about 40 years ago.Sure would like to fine it and give it back to my sister. It was her Daughters And we lost her in a car wreak when she was 0nly 16

Unfortunatly if you want the gold, it is a necessary evil. The only time I don't dig them is if the place is totally polluted with them. There is a lake near here that is very popular and has a large park on it. I understand they used to allow cars to drive through the grass areas because they allowed camping anywhere in the park. I have gone in there with my 4X6 coil and it is still hard to get between targets. I have a walmart plastic bag in my garage completely full of old style pull tabs from this place. I have found two gold rings in the process but I really don't consider that many pull tabs worth the effort. Every once in awhile though I forget what a pain it is and go back telling myself I am only going to dig 80's and up but I am a sucker for gold and sometimes end up with another pouch full of pull tabs.

usually I like to determine what VDI the most common tabs read and avoid digging those VDI numbers. You will still dig some tabs or pieces of tabs if you want to dig gold jewelery.

If it is a small thin gold ring then you may want to watch the numbers in the foil range up to nickels, by the way, that is the area where most valuable rings come in anyway, the ones with the diamonds. Yes, there are plenty of rings in the pulltab range and some of them will be expensive also so it's your call.

Here is a 14k heavy band I found last month with my tesoro .it weighs 10 grams. With the M6, which is like the default "coin and jewelry mode" on the MXT,I believe,it VDI's at 22, just like many ring tabs. And a buffalo nickle that read 14-16 in the ground just like the flap on a coke can.[attachment 58299 ring1.jpg]
Here is a closer pic of the ring with a dime for size comparison.

You can see where I scratched the ring just left of center with my tool, I had been digging a lot of nickles and thought it was a nickle, my tesoro is a beep, dig.I dig alot of aluminum trash on purpose if I am in a place with older coins or schoolyards were there may be good rings. And it also helps to unmask stuff and make it easier to hunt next time I go back.I am still digging trash with the M6 till I become more confident with it .I just got it last week and already found some buffalos and a good bit of silver with it,but to get the gold I dig just about everything vdi 12-24, and also sizing up the target in pinpoint helps alot and depth helps also to decide if to dig or not if I get tired digging too much trash.Got another buffalo and a silver ring today.

I try to be honest with everyone...no I do not dig every pull tab! I as someone else mentioned....try to figure out exactly where the troublesome pulltabs, bottle tops vdi in at. But I am sure I am missing good targets....

The mxt has been a great detector for finding jewelry, stop in the mxt forum and take a look! I am sure one of them could help you make some minor changes. As far as the lost ring goes maybe it was found by someone else! Maybe it is being masked by junk causing it to be discriminated out!

This infant 14 kt gold ring was a 10 on the VDI. Thats usually foil. Rob

An infant gold ring will probably be hard to find but not impossible being light it probably hasn't gone down very far. Was it on public or private property? I am asking this because if private and you think it has never been gone over there is a good possibility it may still be there. If public. Who knows? How big an area was it lost in? How old was the child? There are many things to think about but sounds like a fun quest anyway. If it was in a private yard I would turn the dual control full counter clock wise dig everything no matter how obviously trash just to get stuff out of the way that could be masking the ring. Work it down to dead clean. BTW get the best headphones you can get you miss a lot with cheapies.

This was lost on private land and sure I'm the only one to look here. She was only around 2years old.The bad part is there was a old house that burned down there before the ring was lost and there's a lot of trash.I have the area narrowed down to maybe 100ft by 200ft

Private property is fortunate for you. I am thinking this could be done. I am thinking a Eclipe 5.3 to get around the iron from the burn't house. Turn the dual control up only enough to break up the iron and dig any repeatable signal. Criss cross from multiple directions cover every inch. It is a lot of hard work but could you imagine handing back that ring and all those memories. If I was close I would volunteer just for the adventure and to see your sisters face when she sees that ring. You got to do it and keep us posted. What a great story. Love to see some pic's of the area.

close to ya I might be able to help you hunt fer the ring. I'm in KY on the W Va border. Across the river from Kermit W.Va. Let me know, it sounds like a fun hunt. Best of luck.
God Bless
