do titanium knee joints affect an Etrac?

I finally decided to have my knee joints replaced. The right knee will be done on the 27th. of this month, and if all goes well, my left will be replaced on April 9th. So I should be able to hunt again by July or August. What I want to know is, has anyone else out there had theres replaced and do they interfere with your Etrac:smoke:......NGE

I would think not the coil should be far enough away from your knee that it should not interfere. I gave some thought to this as I am going in Wednesday to have my hip replaced and it too will have titanium in it. My wife detects and her left arm has a 10" titanium plate, 10 screws and a titanium radial head implant and it cause no problem. It is cool though to take the Garrett pinpointer and put it next to her arm and hear it buzz like crazy, I guess she will be able to do the same on my hip

Hope those new knees don't interfere with your diggin' Pez, that would not be good - maybe you can talk them into carbon fiber to match the lower rod of your E-Trac??? That would be cool.

Good luck my friend

After they heal significantly, I should think that I'll at least be able to do squats to dig, instead of bending at the waist. Sure hope I don't lose the ability to amaze my friends of being able to touch the floor with palms down (for a guy my age) without bending my knees........NGE

No they do not interfere. Be advised though, you will need a good set of knee pads eventually. I had my left knee replaced 5 years ago and with a knee pad, can kneel on it, without one I cannot. It is still sensitive.

My dad had both of his knee's replaced and he has no problem with his E-Trac. Like DirtAngler said, you'll need to good set of knee pads. My dad bought the most padded pair he could find and then added some addtional gel padding to them.

just pass your new knee in front of the coil in all different positions with "auto reject" on and your knee will be dicsed out hahahahahaha,,, good luck on your recovery !!!

Believe it or not, our club meeting is on the 28th. and I have had 3 people call me and ask if I was going to the meeting...............duh ......NGE

I have no problem with a titanium rod in lower leg. Grouser has the info you need if your worried. It does make a bit diff rent sound. Pure metal??????

Well I originally asked this question because, in a park that has metal framed picnic tables, I can't get within 3 feet of them without the Etrac complaining. I had the 11" DD coil on. When I detuned the "trac" I was losing depth, so, I usually move the table if it's not chained down:surprised:....NGE

My left knee contains a metal brace and 5 screws (in x-rays they look like they are huge!) but they
don't effect the E-trac in anyway. Only problem was getting up after digging! E-Track makes a good
brace, but always worried it will snap with my weight using it as a support.

Been over year since car hit me, knee stills bothers but I can get down and up without my E-Trac
as a brace now! :usaa::clapping:

Because I haven't been able to get down on my knees the last 20 years, I bend at the waist, but that was making my hips hurt. So I modified a trench shovel (4 inch wide blade) cut the handle dowh to 28 inches, put a "D" handle on the end, and use that to make my plugs, if I have to spend more than 2 minutes on a deep target, I would sit down next to hole and retrieve it. The shortened digger makes an excellent "getter upper:clapping:" Also it looks less damaging than a Lesche shovel. I just drag it behind me..........NGE

I would avoid using your E-Trac as a brace. I use a walking stick to help me get up and down, having a hip replaced tomorrow. I carry it in my left hand and set the detector down and use it to help support getting down and getting up, becomes second nature anymore. My hunting partner's 8 year old son calls it my "Old mans stick" and used to carry it for me sometimes!

Because I sometimes use a wooden cane when hunting with a group of friends, they call it my " sympathy stick "......NGE

Well that's what my old horse Kilohurts thinks.

He recons that a knee joint should read about Fe01-Con35.....

Depends on the mass, and whether they use left or right hand threaded screws....?

He's one smart horse, and only eats the bran left over from my grand-daddy's whisky still.

As for me....I'll go loco if the weather don't improve......desperate to get out and do some 'tecting
