Do they know something that I don't?

I was watcing a couple metal detecting on the beach yesterday at low tide. They were not out where the low tide was. They were only working the high tide mark out about 10 to 20 feet. I always though the ZONE was in the middle. Am I missing something here.

Thanks

I usually zigzag until I hit a couple of good targets and then stay on that general line. I am guessing that the ZONE can move depending on the dynamics of the beach at any given time.

If they were single-frequency VLF's, then they probably stay in the dry sand to keep their detectors stable. Another factor, is maybe their detectors aren't water-proof or water-resistant, and they didn't want to take a chance of them getting wet. Maybe the couple just didn't want to get wet. Maybe they're complete newbies and don't know where to hunt.

definitely moves around here. Actually, I've made some of my best finds higher up on the beach. The zigzagging pattern is indeed a good way to start your hunt. And it's true that targets are often found along a line and often several in close proximity. It changes as the sand washes in and out over long periods of time. I think items are sometimes located pretty far from where they were lost. Have a good one.

I agree the zone changes. First of all that couples Minelabs will be very stable in wet sand. Maybe they already did the up/down zigzag and found the zone. That would be my guess. I do the same thing. Too bad you were not able to speak wtih them.
