Do objects go deeper after ground has been roto-tilled?

I recently worked some ground around what used to be an old church.

The ground around the church had been roto-tilled some 20 years earlier and is grass and weed covered now.

I was somewhat disappointed in not finding a single silver coin, not to mention,a single wheat penny on these grounds. It's hard for me to believe that there are not some good (silver, rings) finds to be made around this old church.

When ground is roto-tilled do any coins or jewelry present go deeper and possibly out of normal range of detection?

It would depend on how deep it was roto-tilled. By the same token, some deeper targets would become shallower, as well. HH jim nt

Can go either way. Ever see arrowhead hunters in crop fields? After the ground is turned/disc'd (especially after a rain) is when they like to hit the fields. What was underground last fall may be laying on the surface next spring (and vise-versa).
