Do not waste your money on a Ace 350

I was in a pawn shop and saw this Ace 350. I have a Whites Coinmaster pro But always wanted to try a Garrett, So I went home and got all the gold I had found and went back to the Pawn shop and traded my Gold for this Garrett Ace 350. Worst decision I EVER made. I took it out and all I got was one way signals or the thing would just ding and nothing would be there. I sent it into Garrett, they sent it back saying Nothing was wrong with it. I even got a small sniper coil thinking that would help, WRONG!!!! OH I get lucky every now and again and find a coin about on the surface but NO COINS below ground everything deep is JUNK. I wouldn't recommend the Ace 350 to anyone. I would like to try the AT PRO or AT GOLD, But after my experience with this ACE 350 I am a little hesitant.

Sad. I just upgraded to the Ace 350 and love the machine. I've found two
gold and three silver rings with my machine. If Garrett says there is
nothing wrong with the machine then I don't know what to say. Of course their
ground conditions are not YOUR ground conditions; that may have something
to do with the problem.
Good luck on your next machine.

I would guess your running too high of power for your soil. Try 4 bars of power and see if it settles down? Also make sure the coil cable doesn't flop around as the coil will pick that up and beep. Plus make sure the coil does not come up at the end of your sweeps. This too can make it beep.

I have tried setting the sensitivity all the way down to 1 bar and back up to max No noticeable difference. I have tried in all modes. I have the coil cable zip tied to the shaft with No excess cable flopping around. I have changed coils, and Batteries. when I got it it has a 61/2x9 coil, it was supposed to have a 8 1/2X11 DD But Garrett supposedly checked everything out, But I think ether the coil is bad or something. When I bench test it it works OK but in the field it goes hay wire.Maybe I just have to use it more, I usually use my coinmaster but the arm cup got broke so I have been using the Ace but I don't stay out long because it is so aggravating.I just don't understand all the one way signals, And my swings are level No up sweeps at the end. I have been told there are other hunters around But I should be finding Something besides surface finds.

From your description, I am convinced that your detector is faulty. That's really too bad. The ACE 350 is an excellent metal detector, and thousands of users would agree. I would try and get your money back, or pawn it yourself.

After 8 years with my 250, and listening to others and reading the many posts-AND having the SAME problem and CURING IT, I have these following suggestions:
( 1, If you have coil cover, make sure nothing is between coil and cover.
(2. Run the coil wire STRAIGHT for the first 6" up the shaft, tape there and continue the winding to the connector.
(3 Leave some slack at connector to make sure it's not too tight and pulling whenever you swing. BTW, #'s 2 and 3 were my problem.
(4 Check battery wire connectors-some have loosened or don't make good contact.
(5 Whenever you power on, hold the power button for ten seconds-or whenever it double beeps and reset the detector.

Tiedoux, before you throw in the towel take your ace 350 out dig test holes and ribbon mark them. Place different items in each hole. Replug the hole and see what you get. For me in almost all cases a quarter signal is two beeps one in each direction and very seldom does a quarter signal bounce it is usually stable. Each coin has its own tone. The penny is all over the place it will bounce in and out of quarter range and will be before the penny on the graph especially the new garbage zinc pennies. Silver is sometimes bouncy but if it is deep and had a good tone dig it. I' ve had my Ace 350 for a full season now and have found about twenty silver items one 14 k ring probably around two hundred in clad and some nice oldies 1864 Indian seated liberty dime Japanese coin from the 1700' s. Just yesterday I found a bridle from 1884 in a river bank. I practiced with my Ace 350 for a week in my own yard before hitting the parks. The double d coil takes some getting used to. I always preferred the smaller dd coil over the larger dd. I always felt like I got plenty of depth from it as well. I traded my larger dd for a concentric coil. Well I hope this note finds you well, and I hope it helps you also! GeorgeS. Oh run your sensitivity at four bars this will keep your detector from falsing. Of you don't' have a pro pointer get one. Last thing if you get a signal but can't get it once your plug is dug change to zero mode and resweep the plug them the hole. You will surely find it on the resweep in zero.

Thank you all for your information. Slingshot have set up my Ace the same way I set up my Coinmaster, Just as you suggested. Took all the batteries out checked all connections.Tomorrow I will go out again and see if I can figure out this machine. I know you have to get use to new machines and maybe I am just expecting this Garrett to function like my White. I will try some more detecting and see if there are any differences. I forgot about re setting the machine, It might be this town has been hit hard in the past. I am going to make a test garden also Thanks for all the info.

If your still having problems, I would call the Garrett service department and tell
them you want another machine. Customer service is usually very good.

Did Garrett charge you anything for looking at the detector? I have always had really good results from any dealings I have had with the company. Many times they have fixed things that I broke out of sheer stupidity, and they never charged me for the repairs. It is certainly possible that your machine has a problem that they didn't catch when they were testing it. If you contact them again and let them know what is going on, I'm sure they will take care of it for you. Also, the coinmaster is completely different, so expect a learning curve after the issue with the 350 is sorted out.
