Do I remove the coil cover?

Okay, I know most of you will laugh at this question, but in all the videos I've watched and everything that I have read it never mentioned this. So, the plastic cover on the bottom of the coil, I assume I remove it when the detector is in use. Is this correct?

Thanks.

You can if you'd like to, but, it's there to protect the bottom of the coil from getting beat to hell. You will need to remove it from time to time to clean the dirt that accumulates over time.

Some folks have removed the plastic cover and sprayed bed liner spray on their coil bottoms. I prefer to just replace the plastic cover when it wears out. You can tell when it gets too loose when you go to pop it back on after cleaning. Zip ties will work in a pinch, but best to eat the $15 and replace the cover when it is worn out.

Jockey....It’s not like a chainsaw chain guard you take off when in use and put back on when you’re done for protection purposes. It’s there to protect the coil when the machine IS BEING USED. Otherwise,if you’re hunting gravel or sand or rocky areas, the coil itself can get damaged over a long period of time. Dirt or magnetic sand can work it’s way between the thin plastic coil cover and the coil itself,so every 5 hunts or so,take the cover off to clean the grit and dirt out of there.

I removed mine and brushed marine epoxy on the bottom, then sprayed bed liner on the bottom. This works a lot better in my opinion, especially if you hunt on the beach because sand will get between the cover and the coil in no time. That will cause a lot of chattering.
Not sure what this would do to the warranty.
