Do any of you really use the stock dd coil?

I think there is a gallon of Epoxy in that baby. Man it can bend that lower rod. I relic hunt in some of the worst soil on the planet and the eight inch mono does great.

Yet, the 14" dd is quite buoyant. I mainly use the 14" mono, I don't think it's as buoyant but still is overall, though easier to swing underwater and lighter.

You should extend the back of the shaft (slip in a pvc pipe or something) and move the controll box back so that it balances at the point of where you're grabbing it.

I also have the 8" mono, look forward to using it but it will be a while I think. I don't think I'll ever go back to the dd, not because it's heavy, but because of the overall performance.

How do you go in the worst soil on the planet and what's it like for relic hunting? Is the 8" mono quieter than the dd?

The 8" mono handles the soil very well and gets good depth.

I use it in gold country that's known for larger nuggets.:detecting:Had some decent luck with it in the past. I need to use a bungy cord with it 'cause it's so heavy it'll tire me out quick. I have that 8" mono, too and I'll use it in the surf or wading. If I'm lookin' for smaller nuggets in gold country I'll use the 5"x10" or even the 3"x7". I've had luck with both. I've hear that 8" mono is good for tiny nuggies, but I've only used it at the beach. You're right about it goin' deep, man. That that pulse induction action. Awesome! Best of luck to ya' on those relic hunts! Sounds like fun! Happy Hunting!:)

I use the stock 10 x 14 DD in the water all the time. The lower rod is a piece of junk but to stiffen it up I plugged the bottom with some plumbers putty stuffed down the shaft and filled it with epoxy. did the same thing to the lower on my Sea Hunter MK2 before mounting on straight shafts

I have the stock DD coil and the 8 inch Mono. I like the Mono much better for pinpointing and cleaner signals.
However at the beach I believe you can cover ground a whole bunch faster with the 10 X14 DD and since the
digging is easy I believe I recover more with the DD. The 10 X 14 MONO is probably best at the beach, but
since I don't have one I vote for the stock 10 X 14 DD. For nugget hunting small nuggets I think the 8 inch
MONO is superb.
