DIY sand scoop

New member
Finally I got time to do sand scoop from sheet metal.

Draw parts in software from visual template - 2wheeldevil's sand scoop.
Made model(s) in cardboard first and decided on length and width

found company that cuts sheets with laser
it is 2mm sheet (it is not SS) and 8mm holes

friend welded it together

about 2.5kg with wood handle.
Bombproof :)

It is winter here... next week we will have some snow.
Lakes are waiting - and lot's of trash

That looks very nice. Bet it works good.

Surfman,
first try will be on saturday.

My concern is weight with water and sand
on that 28mm wood handle.

We'll see.

I don't know, looks pretty damn good to me. I see a lot of them now with the wood handles and they hold up real good. Mine's aluminum so it's pretty lite. That still doesn't look like its going to be that heavy. Good luck with it. I'm sure it will work just fine. Probably the best home-made scoop I've seen. Let us know how it works. Joe

It is made looking at this one
http://www.findmall.com/read.php?22,1639249

original is stainless and a bit smaller

It is working scoop.
I did not break it today :)

Found few coins, about 50 bottle caps
and few pull tabs (not very popular).

Lake is fresh water "hole" about 500m in diameter.
There is about 150m of beach with shallow water ...
the rest is too deep for waders.

Bottom is sand / black sand and mud/clay.
Hard to dig in one go.

Bottom - stuff is on surface - or not very deep.
