DIY Electrolysis Machine

I've seen plans all over the webbernet to make your own Electrolysis Machine for cleaning coins. Most suggest a 5v power adapter that most cell phones use, the question I have is...Can I use a 9v, 12v? Does it matter? Will a higher voltage clean faster?

thank ya'll, look forward to any input.

I built one using a 12V charger but not had a chance to use it on anything good yet. I'll let u know how it works when I get to try it out.

I have always used a 12V power supply and I don't have any complaints. I haven't tried a lower voltage but I would suspect the higher the voltage the quicker the electrolysis and more chance for damage and pitting if you don't keep a close eye on the progress.

I have gone from electrolysis to hot peroxide baths for the few coins that I have to clean.

The guy that sells a bunch of them on ebay uses 9vdc at 1 amp. I've never done it so I have no opinion.

Daytona.....I've seen your search coil in the book "Chariots of the Gods".
It was hovering above some trees.

12 volts will clean faster and you don't have to build a machine at all, just use a battery. A car battery even if it won't hold sufficient charge to turn the engine in the winter will be fine. Practise on something you don't mind destroying because they will all fry what your cleaning if you lose attention.
