Diving with the CTX

If this has popped up and I haven't seen it I apologize in advance. My question is has anybody with a CTX dove with it 6 - 8 ' and if you have is the screen readable or do you go by target tone? Also is the machine easy to make into a short diving machine and is it hard to swing totally underwater? LOL and another good question is how good does it find gold chains?

Reason behind this question is very simple. I dive in an area that is HUGE and have found lots of gold rings, platinum rings, silver rings and necklaces and they get replenished every weekend. The water is no more than 6' deep. However, my machine refuses to find gold chains. I found one Sunday and one on Monday ONLY because I was fanning for a different target and they were laying there enjoying themselves under the sand. The one I found Sunday is 460.00 worth of gold and it sure would be nice to hit something like that without having another target nearby.

I KNOW I have put my coil over others and have missed them. I love to dive becase I can fan the sand away until I reach the target instead of scoop for it.

If any of you go to the Beach and Diving section, you know one of the places I play in. Thanks for any input.

WOW, SECOND page 191 views and NO input? Can I make it simpler, has ANYONE tested this machine with gold chains, OR diving?

Probably not. Hence why 191 views and no response. People can't respond if they've never done it. I honestly don't think many if any people actually planned to dive with it.

Pictures that tell the reason I ask.

This water is 3 - 6 foot deep and on weekends its a ZOO. On weekdays only a few boats around BUT the area is HUGE. 16 - 65 foot boats everywhere and its where I found the ring in my avitar. I know there is more gold chains around there. With all the silver, gold and platinum we find we are missing the gold chains.

Not dove with it but it imho is very balanced even wading neck deep I never have to fight it to keep it under. my hunting buddy and I will be shallow water diving on a hooka in the area lakes soon I plan to give it a spin I will post when I do. Sorry all I can say is it does very very well wading even at maxium wading depth.

I dive with an Ecall II and Anderson scuba shaft. I don't consider the 3030 viable option for diving. It's too big. However, it's a great machine for wading. FBS2 (in an air test) is just as bad with gold chains as FBS and BBS.

That's interesting. When wading with my ctx I always have to fight the coil from wanting to float up. I'm wondering if some air isn't getting trapped in my coil cover and not getting out.

I was told the Excal and the CZ-21 (which I swing) were locked into salt mode and thats why they don't find gold chains in FRESH water. Your sayintg ANY Minelab or CZ isn't good on chains? Thats new news to me!!

There are a lot of cavaties in that coil for air to get trapped in. I have no use for a coil cover and I can turn the coil sideways to let the air out.

I'm saying all BBS, FBS and FBS2 machines won't see a gold chain. It may see large ones but not the average sized one (unless there is a pendant attached that it can pick up).

I may have to remove my coil cover. Either that or fill all the voids with epoxy. I could always tie a rock to it, too.

Epoxy can be pretty heavy, I might be tempted to use expanding foam. It dries pretty hard yet can be trimmed with a hacksaw blade.

That's true............. never mind......:stars:

I have found that larry is right once the air is out of coil it sits flat on the ground I usually will walk striaght out to say chest deep and the start my search in the shallow by dunking the whole detector all the air is forced out ou the shaft and void places. Once this is done you can stand the detector on the coil and the control box will (battery end) will sit like a buoy.So I have no issues and I lake hunt 3 to 5 times a week in numerous lakes and swim areas in the south.
