Went to lake Srt. Clair yesterday and FROZE!! My 5mm wetsuit just doesn't cut it now. Made one dive and found 2 quarters, a dime two nickels and a penny. Also a religious medal probably aluminum. One dive was enough. Scoop season is next. Kind of hate to put all my gear away till next spring but tis life. It was a good year though. Will be putting the boats away soon. Wish it was a bit different here.

Ohh got another nice big boat anchor also. Can never have enough of them!!

Grats on all of your finds for the year

You had a hell of a year in my eyes SD. Its cooling down here too, have considered picking up a wet of some variation just to keep the heat on my vitals.

In Texas a 5mil suit will get you through winter. I know what you mean, I lived in Ohio for a few years and when it starts getting cold it comes quick.

Yeah, it's getting a bit cold up here. Maybe it's for the best as the duck hunters will be all over St. Clair starting next week (Myself included).

I purchased a new 7mm semi dry suit earlier this year and may try that out soon. It was a bit expensive, but I figured if it can give me another hour in the water or extend the season by a week or two it would totally be worth it.

enjoyed your posts very much, thanks for sharing..... the pa water is getting a bit chilly too,but if i found as much good stuff as you do im sure it would feel a little warmer.....

Thank you all for your replies!! Its been a good year, not my worst and not my best but a good one in finds and unique items.

I will wade for awhile. I have a huge Sunspot scoop and will play for a bit longer. Its just sooo easy to lay on the bottom and fan your hand and see the target instead of guess and scoop and scoop and scoop!

Will be dreaming about next spring and summer!!! I have a lot more places to play in and I am sure there is plenty more where I have been finding things.

This is a great forum and lots of good people on here.

Ever thought about a dry suit ? I'm using a 5mill with a7/5 vest hope to get to the 1st week in October.I've enjoyed looking at your finds.

Hey SD...You need one of those suits with the hot water flowing through it like the Bearing Straight divers!!
You did good all summer....wading and scooping ain't so bad...hope its not a long cold winter..but i heard that's what's coming....I'm looking forward to some mosquito free nice comfortable and cool land hunting weather in the coming months...GL HH

Don't let it be over yet. I need your help in Fort Gratiot. A man lost his wedding band off his cottage in Lake Huron in 4 feet of water. Because of the hard clay and rocks I was unable to retrieve it although I
had a good signal on my CZ21. If you can help him I would appreciate it. There is a $100 reward. I have been there twice the second time with my HOOKA but the waves were 3 feet high and the water was like looking through skim milk. I'm from Grand Rapids, MI and it is a 240 mile round trip.

I usually start water hunting in a few weeks, when they start to lower the lake. The ones I saw in the lake up to their necks trying to find something last month I,ll be in water just below my waist in about 6 to 8 weeks from now.I start with my hip waders than I have a deep diving yellow dry suit.As long as the temperature remains above 15 and there are no winds I,m comfortable.I,ve been out as late as mid January. Its also better to detect in the cold water,no wave action due to the outer part of the lake starting to ice over, leaving the water close to shore calm. Also the bottom is more clear and you don,t get what I call FOG OUT when you start to dig the bottom, everything remains still and stiff as if you were cutting a piece of cake.Plus theres NOBODY ELSE AROUND except a few geeses :) Last year I hit the jackpot around December and early January with those 3 diamond Cobalt or Tungston rings and that 21kt Gold cross I found on St Patricks day plus other nice things.

DAH!!! forgot why I came on here for, just saw that post and it related to me sort of.Don,t know if I should make this a new post or what but since everyone here is from Michigan and it concerns the water maybe someone here might know something about it.Came across a old man at Sterling State Park recently, at the beach along Lake Erie, went there to see how the water level was along this canal I wanted to cross over to the otherside, its about 50 feet wide and so so so SO MURKY,and the STENCH, you don,t want to touch that water with your hands, let alone lose your balance and fall in,alot of slippery rocks on the bottom, so I was figuring to use a rubber dingy I have in the garage attic.Well to make it short he told me he had seen a guy PANNING FOR GOLD and was wondering if I was panning when he saw my detector in my car.Anyone heard about someone panning for gold at the beaches of sterling state park?
