diving/detecting help

Hello, My wife and I are new to diving But looking for a location to do some diving & underwater detecting for our 25Th anniversary this Oct, trying to make some plans but I have no idea where to go. we are from Ohio and looking south ?or east? for about 8 days or so. like a place to shore dive maybe some boat dives also safety as we are new, but any areas as a starting point would be great. Thank you Jim

I would suggest warm and clear water so go south. I made many off shore dives off of cape cod and the currents are really bad and dive at slack water. The further South the currents are not as bad. Stay out of New England States because the tidal changes and currents extreme. My favorite is Key West Florida! Water is warm and clear. You can rent a boat and go out to the reef or dive off shore.

As new divers, you need to get some time in on just diving. Don't complicate things by introducing another activity that takes your focus away from the diving. Failure to pay attention to depths, time, gas supply, etc can get you dead. When diving is second nature, then add other activities.

Most rings and coins are found in water you can stand up in. I detect in 4 - 5 foot of water ALL the time. These drop-offs I have in some lakes are the BEST, but not the norm. If your going to shallow water you should be just fine. If deeper I would agree with Jason.

I didn't reply to your post cause your in Ohio and I am in Michigan. LOL Wouldn't do you much good to come here. You need some WARMER water!!

PLAY in 4 - 6 foot of water where you can relax and not have to worry about depth and harmful distractions and especially enjoy. You can find as much gold at that depth as you can anywhere else. When you get comfortable, Next summer hit a drop-off in a lake in Ohio. Start at the top and slowly go down on subsequent dives. If its anything like Michigan, We have them all to ourselves and tons of stuff to be found!!! VIRGIN underwater PARKS.

Please, nobody else read this, especially Michiganders!!! I don't need a thousand detectorists to invade my banks!!!! :chase:

Thank you For the imput, staying shallow is more of what i had in mind but we also are looking to explore around and have a good time. any ideas on the springs in Florida like the Ginnie springs area they seem shallow and clear more and looks like a fun time maybe some lost loot to be found?? Thanks Again And To the Michigander I think you guys have a real good chance this yr. also its not the cold lake water the bothers me Its well ?? HMMMM can't really put my finger on it. LOL Jim
