Ditch Beach Hunter 300 for Excaliber?

desmond

Question for beach hunters. I bought the beach hunter 300 in July, and have used it about 8 or 9 times. Many times, I haven't been able to balance it, after reading directions over and over. Even a beach on Cape Cod Mass, where I grew up, I had a hard time balancing, no black sand or minerialization. Did find a few good rings there when I could balance it, but since I moved to Buffalo, haven't been able to keep it stable at the Lake Erie Beaches, beeps everywhere. Should I trade it in for the Excaliber? From reading and talking to people, seems like the best machine. I've been I coin hunter for a long time with the DFX. Desmond in Buffalo

I think I'd call the factory and talk to them about how the Beach Hunter is performing; particularly if you can compare how it behaves to how the DFX behaves over similar ground.

Not sure about that desmond. Most users of that new unit are happy with it. BEACH HUNTER is the BHID guru though, be sure to PM him and see if he can line you out. I have heard some VERY favorable reports on that unit, don't throw in the towel just yet. I WILL tell this though, MOST of the VERY successful hunters run that unit in all-metal and watch the lights. Are you running all-metal or Disc?

And like them both. Since getting the BHID300, I have been using that more since it's newer and I am learning it. It can be swung faster, and GulfHunter is correct...run it in all metal for the most depth. Search this forum for the Gobble Gobble post on how to ground balance the machine. It is a 2 step process that tunes the machine hotter. You need to make sure that the machine is stable though, and don't be afraid to use the pre-set setting for sensitivity. I have had very good results on the preset.

When you bump up the sensitivity, the lights become less valid....but you can run it in all metal and dig everything. When you run in all metal on the pre-set sensitivity ( or lower), any flash of red light is almost always iron or steel. As you go up in sensitivity though, some other deep targets may not ID correctly but the machine will go deeper.

Don't give up on it....keep using it and do PM BeachHunter....he will give you some insight.

Then again, if you are having problems in your area, maybe the BHID is not the machine for you.

I am hunting the NJ beaches and the BHID works great there.

There is a lot of mineralization, in lake erie sands. black red and purple layers of iron ore dust, They have been offloading iron ore carrieres, from all the lake erie ports for over a 100 years.

I thought my excalibur was malfunctioning the first time that I hunted lake erie beaches. My advice is to try another area. Some stretches are a lot worse than others.A few hundred yards, may have better conditions, or 20 miles.
Good Luck
