I went to pensacola beach yesterday and to navares beach today and absolutely nothing. Not a pulltab, tinfoil corroded penny. I figured between the oil cleanup crews and the sand rakes they must have got it all. Looks like new sand on all the beachs in this area. This is spring break weekend sooo maybe some fresh drops soon. I was using my xterra 70 and thought something was amiss and had to thro my own coins down from time to time to reassure myself it was working ok.

Keep looking as it never pays to give up.

I'm in the Sarasota area and have been to all the beaches this weekend. I have talked to businesses in the area and also the life guards.

They are all saying that the price of gasoline seems to be putting a hurt into business as the beaches are not nearly as full as they normally are. The Gulf water temps are down a bit from normal so there are very few people in the water. Cooler air temperatures also have not helped.

As this is the beginning of spring break and the air temperatures are predicted to be near 80, so there is still hope.

Anna Maria Island beaches are having some work done on them. Holmes beach is invaded by the dredge barges that are removing the remainders of the old pier. Coquina beach has sand dredge action going on so it looks as if Anna Maria will be a bit tougher to hunt for a while. The good news is that the federal government is going to stop funding beach replenishment.

Lido beach was very dead with very few people on it Sunday afternoon. The wind was pretty cool and so there were very few people willing to go near the water.

I ran into the same situation down at south beach in Miami last week. Saw several detectorists out but no one was having much luck. The beaches were not as full as usual and it was pretty cold outside so not too many wanting to go into the water. Also did some Treasure coast detecting but it is so sanded in that it was futile. Not even any modern day stuff to be found. The Treasure coast beaches are pretty dead right now.

Thats how I felt when I took my trip to "the treasure coast" last year. Four days of walking miles and miles in sand and nothing. I found less than a hand full of clad the whole time I was there. That has to be the cleanest stretch of beach in the world, not even junk. That being said, I have never had more fun detecting in my whole life because I know it's there...somewhere. I cant wait to go back!

I was in Panama City Beach this Feb. Same thing, few targets, few coins, no goodies. I found some sand/ Oyster shell parking lots to hunt off beach. A lot of pennies,a long handled shovel, some large coins from Asia & a neatly folded $20 bill. The 20 made the hunt, otherwise 372 coins for ten$ and 24 cents. 2 and a half week stay.

It is sanded in bad right now. I am just happy to dig deep bobby pins with the DF. It will get better, the beach has been packed now here for a month. So fresh drops only.... for now.
