display on mxt

Hey all, i'm a new one here and to metal detecting. I just got an MXT and was able to start finding stuff, junk, right away. The display always shows a VDI= -95 iron but will change when it finds some thing to indicate what it may be. is this constant display normal or what am I doing wrong? Anybody??
Also, I can't seem to find any detecting clubs around Huntsville AL.

I am not sure which MXT you have I have the e-series regular MXT and my screen always clears off if I am not over a target and so does the screen on my M6 which has the same screen as the MXT .
I am not sure what the MXT pro does as I haven't had the chance to be around one of them yet , but someone else will chime in soon thats knows about them . Never heard anyone mention there machine doing that before now . Hope you get it figured out soon cause the MXT is a good machine .

Don't know sounds like there might be a problem my screen is always blank in the numbers area until it goes over a target and then shows the vdi number but disappears after a few seconds if it don't cross another target maybe someone will have a solution I've never had that happen but I do know that's not normal.

I don't know about the mxt pro, but it is not normal, sounds defective to me.

If you're hunting in very mineralized ground your machine may be trying to sort out what it's "seeing" as you hunt. I'm assuming you're saying the -95 reading is displaying on your screen silently (without an accompanying target signal) and intermittently. If I watch my screen at some spots it will display similar readings as I sweep (w/out target signals) as it's reading and nulling out iron signals and mineralization. Have you tried it at various sites to compare and see how the machine reads ? Best thing is if you're still in doubt you can't ask for any better service than Whites.

well I have more info.
I believe on the mxt i had the gain to high. I turned the gain down between 1 & 2 and the screen went where you all say it should be. Also i have a coinpro and when i turn the discriminating off it reads alot of iron. so I am guessing that I just happen to be trying it out with high mineralization in the soil. My luck.

I have lots to learn to use this unit but I am enjoying it already.

Yes there's plenty to learn but as you said, you're already having fun. The MXT is pretty easy to learn and it just gets more and more fun...quickly. Good luck.

Maybe a detecting club in your area can help you with buying advice. I did a quick google search for Alabama detecting clubs. The following is what I found.

where should i buy accessories for my detector's??

You can also go to whites web site and do a zip code search for your area and it will list the nearest dealers in your area that's how I found mine when I got ready to buy my whites and another reason to find one local if you can is they can answer questions if you have any plus maybe give you some good tips my dealer even took me outside and helped me to get started on the right track.

Definitely highly mineralized soil. If you have a problem with it go into the area, turn it on and pump the coil up and down until it cancels it out then set it on LOCK. That should get rid of it. As long as the discrimination is set high enough to keep it from sounding it shouldn't impair your hunting.
