discrimination setting for excal II

Just curious what others run their discrimination at for the excal II. At the moment I am freshwater only hunting. Will be in salt water in a few months. I am not into reverse hunting yet...just testing out the new machine and will try new stuff later.

Anyway. Thanks. HH Joe

from what i know no more than 2 me i keep it at 1 all the wat to the left

I run disc at 1, sens at 11 o'clock, threshold barely audible. I also never use AM mode, just disc. If I want to use AM I then use my Garrett Sea Hunter, it is deeper than my Excal but in trashy areas it will pick up all rusted nails. The Excal has been kicking butt at the saltwater beach for me, go the the beach forum here and see some of the things I have been finding. Tried using my Sea Hunter but way too many rusted nails in this part of the beach, the waves have been exposing all kinds of rusted trash metal, the Excal ignores it. When I go into the water to hunt, I do use the Sea Hunter, it will kick butt. HH

Discrimination 1 to 2
Sensitivity 5 or 6
Volume 3/4 to max
Threshold just audible

i just gotta say this is a interesting post...

I figured id ask. I am new to the machine. Very happy with it. Tomorrow there is a freshwater pond I am gonna hit. Its near a city, and may have heavy use. I pretty much had it set low. Just wanted to make sure. I tried it in salt water conditions yesterday for first time. I didn't find anything but aluminum tabs...not even a penny.

Part of the problem there was it was just too rocky to dig. But the machine was stable. And works well.

Tomorrow when I go I am gonna start with the suggested settings an see what happens. Anyway...HH and thanks for tips. -Joe
