Discrimination questions.

Does the Compadre give the same target responses as units like the Cibola?
On the Tesoro's that have a pinpoint function, has anybody used it to gain further information out of a target via a pinpoint fade?
Is the audio system on the Tesoros subtle enough, that you get a weaker signal on a deeper target without raising the coil?
I've been reading up on the Tesoros over the last few days, and am impressed by what I see. I've been hooked on TID units for the last couple of years, but took my Explorer out today and basically ignored the TID and listened to the tones. I got a bit of a shock when I saw how often the TID was telling porky pies; and some of them were big ones! How many coins have I walked over.
Thanks.

Hello Mick,

I've heard the Explorer described as a symphony.

You might do well ignoring the meter for a while!

Yes, with quality headphones Tesoro will provide a lot of target information.

It is similar to other single tone tesoros but different than the others also. Most Cibola's use a low tone, so the pitch is different. Seeing how people tend to hear different frequencies at different amounts of perception, the Cibola is very different from the Compadre. Also the circuitry is a lot different and the responses are different for that reason.

Yes, Tesoro pin pointers are great for gathering more info. That's one thing that the Compadre doesn't do. But I find the Compadre so informative, I have come to prefer it in most circumstances. Saves time and I can concentrate on what I'm doing better without the distraction, usually.

Well, first off there's no substitute for raising the coil.

Tesoros are good about giving such information. However you must have quality headphones if you want to get in tune with that very well. If you super tune a Cibola you loose much of the ability to distinguish depth.

The Compadre is the best I've used for telling depth by signal strength. But, with all the info gained by raising the coil, there's no doing without it.

I re-started this hobby last year. I tried two TID machines and was very frustrated. I finally got a Cibola. I've bought five more Tesoros and got rid of the TID machines.

What's a TID say about a coin on edge? Compadre says YOU BETTER DIG THAT!

I had work my way up to the Compadre. It is the best jewelry finder for me. The Lobo may work better, but I ain't lugging that thing around.

HH,

Wow Tabdog!

That rite ther is a prety durn gud bit of ritin fer a Arkie!

Have I sent you this link?

This guy is almost as good as Joe Isuzu...

It's for Rockwell Automations.

I got a lot out of that. Sounds like the compadre holds it's own quite well. Had a suspicion that it might. After seeing the Explorer way off on the visual information, I can understand why you would get annoyed with a TID unit. I was just starting to pride myself on how effective I was becoming at discriminating out the junk via the TID. It seems that the cost is a fair amount of coins left behind as well!
I printed off your post for future reference.
Cheers.

Yeah. It's the full orchestra. Quite pretty to listen to, sometimes a bit too much of a tune though. The recovery speed is pretty slow, so it can take a bit to figure a target out even when using just the audio. The TID seems to be more of an after thought for info on my XS. Seems to take forever to come up and a lot of the time, the numbers don't correspond anywhere near to what the tones are saying. if you are not patient, it can drive you a bit batty.

Thanks for the reply Mick...

We've all heard great things about those machines, and that sweep must be slower...
Your observation supports what I've heard.

Response with a tesoro is very quick.
Recovery and re-acquisition of a new target is awesome!

90% of my experience is with my 3 tesoros, so I don't know much about others.
I can tell individual shallow targets are present with 2" separation using a fast swing.
My ace requires about 8" separation AND a slower sweep.

It's rarely necessary to pinpoint, because the target IS in the center of the coil.

Problem I've had in the last few days is a TON of foil wads that appear to be nickels.
I'm REAL tired of digging foil!

I use a probe, and it passes right through it, so I don't know if I've got center of a ring, or a small trinket.

Sometimes I wonder about those VDI machines....

Sometimes I have to reduce the sweep speed down to 6 seconds per direction, if the ground is trashy. I can't put a small coil on it due to bad design of the early units. The upper shaft is glued in permanently to the housing, so I can't disconnect the coil. (I have tried everything that I can think of to debond the glue.)
I was about a hairs breath away from ordering a tesoro today. I surely would enjoy the faster response and good tone on good targets. Most of the range have their appeal to me for different reasons. I did give them a close look a while back, and suspect, the Deleon might be the best choice for me. The Aussie dealer doesn't keep them in stock, but has a customer, that wants to off load one. In the mean time, I can enjoy the Explorer. I haven't owned it long and might get the other half's nose out of joint, if I spend another grand on a machine so soon. BUT BoY can I drool!:beers: Who knows, I may weaken anyway and spend my find money. I do have it lined up for another purpose though. Decisions decisions.
