Discrimination questions

For some reason my safari also gives me a high reading on some rusty nails. seems that the rusty nail gives a 38 reading. This has happened many times to me.Most nails are nulled out but every now and then i dig a 38 and it's a rusty nail. The composition must change. Also when it's wet ground nails seem to give a high reading. As do pennies.Hope this helps

I would sent the whole thing it for a tune up if you have any questions. Minelab service is great!

Wolf- I know of only one member of the Safari forum that had ever found anything good with a tid of 40,and that was Croakersmoker. I agree with your 40 readings, they seem to be rusty nails and in most cases for me,they are also small pieces of sheet metal or aluminum. You didn't mention your stats(all settings/hunt mode/low or high density) but if you're a newbie to the Safari, then follow Andy's suggestions from either the Quattro or Safari handbooks. In addition, bring along worn-out coins of the type that you're hunting for and scatter them on the ground. As you move the coil over the coins, try to remember their tid as well as their audio responses, (use a small pad of paper and pencil to record info) so that future targets you're thinking of recovering will be fresh in your memory. Make it a habit of digging all sorts of targets to familiarize yourself before deciding to reject them in the future.
If you find that you need to send in your Safari, it's best to call them first, so that they may diagnose and possibly troubleshoot the problem over the phone. 1-877-767-6522, email :service@minelabamericas.com. Lon Abercrumbie is the Customer Service Specialist there and he'll get you to a friendly and highly qualified tech like Darren or John.
I was really impressed with the assistance that I received a few months ago when I sent mine in for repairs, while still under warranty.

Ditto. Most of the time TID #40's are rusted iron of some sort. Try notching it out when MD'ing, it should make the Safari run smoother with less chatter. I believe your your Safari is operating normally

Send it in if you think you need too but your Safari sounds like mine. 40 I just rejected out. Never dug anything good at 40. Rusty bent nails will trick the best hunters at times. Always recheck the hole because as you have probably found out sometimes a hitch hiker may be hiding close to nails and other friends in the same hide-out. I have even dug some of those culprits while in hot pursuit of treasure using my E-Trac. HH :minelab:

Thank you for your advice and help. In a couple of days I will go out, with a few old coins,
check the machine and log the results. I will report back to you. Ingo

yea i get the same thing, after digging many rusty nails, i can tell now when it is a nail just by the sound., my Safari nulls then gives me that high tone.
