Discrimination Patterns

Hello everyone I am a 55 yearold NEWBIE so be kind. I have never had a metal detector before but I have always wanted to get into it and now that I have the time here I am. I asked and did a lot of reading about different machines and I think I bought the Best in the Explorer. I have become familier with it but I am lost when I try to load a Discrimination Pattern that I saved. I have read Andys book and followed it he says
A. Press the Menu touch pad
B. Press the touchpad adjacent to SELECT
C. Scroll down the options presented and place an X next to the CROWNCAP and FOIL options
D. Press Detect to start hunting with the new settings
Its here I then go to the Main Menu/Save/Save Discrim and then save to S1, so far so good it shows the pattern in the little windows. Then I shut the machine off and turn it back on go to and put it into factory settings. I then go into Menu/SAVE DISC and I can SEE next to the little window by S1 the right pattern but if I hit that button it just saves the prior patttern. Where do I go just to LOAD a SAVED PATTERN What am I doing wrong/ What about in the SELECT MENU how do you save in there and pull it up when needed? Thanks for any help I am sure happly I found this site

To retrieve a pattern you have to go to the select menu and the first thing I do would be hit the clear to clear out the one you are using which is the factory preset if you do a reset. This is the first option on that menu and if you are changing from one pattern to another I do the same thing. Now scroll down to the pattern you have saved which lets say is S1 and put a check mark on it and it will load that pattern. Now hit detect and you are ready to go with the pattern you chose.
When you go to the save window you see all the patterns you have saved, but don't push that button unless you want to save a pattern as it will save what your settings you have loaded up and using at the time. In this case you have the factory presets as you did a factory reset so it will now save this pattern and over write the one that was saved before. Just remember when loading a pattern you save you do this in the select menu, to save a pattern this is done in the save menu. If you don't press the clear in the select menu when loading a pattern or take the check mark out of the one that is loaded your pattern will add to the pattern that is checked.
