Discrimination Pattern Question

I've had my E-trac for almost 3 months. I have been using the default discrimination pattern with the exception that I notched in silver dollars. My primary interest is coinshooting. I like finding old coins. I've found silver coins but I wonder if I'm missing more because I haven't opened up the discrimination pattern more. I'm sure most of you are familiar with the pattern where most of the discrimination is in the bottom right corner of the screen. If I opened my discrimination screen like that do you think I'd hit on more silver that may be masked by nulls? I was just about to try and find that pattern and upload it...but I thought I'd seek out words of wisdom from my E-trac peers. (BTW I hunt in multi tones. In addition to the discrimination pattern, I think multi tones also helps me discriminate.)

I was wondering to about that to, since you do get the wrap around effect of rusty items hitting in the upper silver range. Mind sharing what the other 2 guys said? If not, I undertand the privacy.

Thanks

Sure. I think it would be alright. Here's Andy's reply (minus personal info):

Saw your post on Patterns . . . .

Thought this post of mine might help . . .

Opening up the screen will allow you to get some deeper coins or those masked by trash that would otherwise be rejected.

Let me add here a big "Thank You!" to Andy for being so helpful.

I opened my discrimination up by lowering the ferrous too 28. Use your edit feature to adjust your coin pattern.

For the first time since I bought my E-trac a few months ago, I used the E-trac Xchange usb cable to upload Andy's discrimination pattern. Worked like a charm. I really appreciate this feature of the E-trac now that I've used it. Hope this information helps you too! :bouncy:

Funny, I looked at that link the other day and thought to myself, I should really try that setup.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Hi gibson dan..I think we watch each others vids on youtube :) I was wondering..I use the SE atm..I always run all metal. How come you guys arent using that on the E-trac?I feel that gives the most depth on ,esp on targets sitting under or next too iron.I use ferrous sounds also, manual sens high as i can.Everytime i use discrim at all i feel like im missing the deep stuff..maybe its just me.

This has been discussed at length starting when the E-Trac first came out. If you run the E-Trac in All Metal, you will not get the same performance as you might be used to on the Explorer . . . different software programming on the E-Trac which requires some level of discrimination . . . . . . search some of the older posts and read them . . . . . this subject got a ton of air play many months ago.

Hey thats great! If i can start using discrim and not miss stuff or lose depth im even more stoked about getting my hands on the E-Trac.I'll have to look back and read the post discusing the topic in detail.thx

this file downloaded as a ptrn. file and I cant get it into the exchange program. am I doing something wrong

........yeah, you've got it lads!!

As targets get deeper, the ETrac tracks the FER down with it as more soil is between the coil and the target. By using the standard Minelab pattern, it masks out deeper targets.
If I come across a target with a 'larger' FER number, I tend to have a quick glance at the depth gauge. Shallower targets with higher FER numbers tend to be relic items like buttons etc.
Higher FER numbers and an increased depth are always worth a dig. Usually you can remove a clod of earth and the FER number will lessen.

Gaz.
