Discrimination,Losts Depth???

Hi every one,
I would like to know if whe we setup an Iron mask or use a set of patterns for discrimination the depth detection capability of the Explorer is reduced.
Is the same distance (depth) of detection on the air as in the ground?
Thank's.-
Adolfo

You'll get a bunch of answers on the depth v disc. issue and I won't jump in. However the depth you get "in the ground" will be greater than air testing. Coins in the ground develop a halo effect that amplifies there responce to the detector signal. You will seldom do better than 6" in the air while I have found coins in the ground at 12+"

I dont think you lose much depth if any, with discriminationon the explorer, but you might disc out some good targets near trash or iron with too much rejection

Seems unlike on older units (BFO-VLF units?) that it killed the depth-affected performance on older machines. I'm new on the Explorer, but seems like this sytem might just being using the notch type of it sees the unwanted target, but does not give a audio signal on the notched out reading? Therefore it should not affect depth, is my best guess.
