Discriminate knob

New member
My brother just called, he just got his Excalibur II out and was adjusting knobs
and discriminate knob came off? He said it looked like it broke, but he found
four small wedges on ground.

Has this happened to anyone before and how do you fix. He tried to put knob back
on but just twist on shaft?

He called me cause 1. I have his laptop to fix, HD gone and 2. I also have a
new Excalibur II 800.

Thanks

I have not had any problem yet as my Excal is new but i was thinking of getting spare knobs such as the Anderson Knob Set have you or any one else used these and do they hold up....

E-mail Minelab and explain, they will probably send you some new ones, they did for me anyway!! I have since bought a set of the Anderson knobs as a backup but am still using the nice minelab knobs!!

Go to Radio Shack and for about 4 bucks for a pack of 4, you can get some heavy duty knobs that are a little bit bigger and will stay put. The Excalibur uses 1/4 inch posts and the shack has several styles of knobs that would work well.

I replaced all my knobs after my discriminate / pin point knob went bad. Never looked better and a lot stronger to boot.

Pop the yellow cap, get a 1/4" socket (I think), loosen nut and pull off. Some of the older style knobs just pulled off.

You do not have to pop off the tops of the factory knobs to remove the factory knobs.

There is a small set screw on the knobs. The set screw is a very small slotted screw. The problem with those knobs are that the set screw is way too small to handle the resistance of the pots and switches. The set screw will eventually cut into the plastic post and start to move. The larger set screw on the Radio Shack knobs stay in position way better.

I have a Excal II i see not set screw but there is a nut under the yellow cap

My 800 has the 1/4 nut under the yellow cap and my 1000 has neither nut nor set screw, just pushes on and pulls off. I have 2 sets of Anderson knobs w/set screws in waiting, just in case.

Thanks... I bought the one from radio shack as backup because after a month there already starting to crap out my whites is 15yrs old and the knobs are perfect

It looks as if different years had different ways of keeping the knobs on.

Mine had very small set screws on the side of the knobs. I have heard that some folks have nuts under the caps.

I have been told that I am nuts under my cap but that is for another forum.
