Discovery 3300 is now in Hyper Drive...Shocked I tells ya!!

I recently ordered a 10" coil for my Discovery 3300. I used a well known retailer not an advertiser but I had to make an X-mas order so...

I got the coil last week but I've had a chest cold & didn't have strength to get out till the last 2 days. It is amazing compared to the 8"...

I can now finally run the same GB settings in all metal & disc. With the 8" & the 4" coils the GB setting for disc is always 1/8 turn CCW from the all metal GB setting for a given location.

Also, the 10" runs "cool" or I can give it more adjustment on the GB than the other 2 coils. I double checked the coils size & danged if it isn't 10 1/4 exactly-very thin & light also. I noticed there are 2 large coils listed on Kellyco's sight for the BH line & the 10 1/4 is just a hair pricier. I'm not sure if I just got lucky & got a coil that matched my machine really well or if it is a "special" coil what with that extra 1/4"...

All I know is 10 quarters, 1 junk ring & 1 junk earring from a school I have wiped with my Troy X2 fitted w/ 10x12-a machine I hold in high regard.

And now the all metal is stupid deep but runs smooth... I can reverse image the ground very well with the machine for very deep targets.

I'm letting this secret out as nobody is going to believe it anyhow....This sucker rocks!!!

Yeah but you won't find a better gold ring finder than the X2, she loves gold,i keep going over ground that I thought was clean and it amazes me what mine will pull up especially after a new rain in ground.Does the 3300 hit gold as hard ? I would have to see it to belief it IMHO

Hey Woodchuck..
In disc mode the 3300 will not hit as hard as the TroyX2. But there is a trick to the 3300-no motion all metal. I'm starting to exploit to good advantage and it will smoke the Troy in no motion all metal. You have to have a good GB setting & with this new coil I can run it "hot" normally. About the same GB setting as my 4" if that makes any sense.

With it in all metal you will miss nothing if you care to take the time.It gets 9" on a dime without issues in all metal no motion. They are small localized targets. I have been digging a ton of junk doing this but I'm getting better at deciding what to dig on in the no motion mode.I am working a field/old school that has produced silver & some old head stamps. Almost all the trash & shallow targets are gone after about 3 months of work. Now I'm hoping for the good stuff but I know it will be fewer/farther apart.

If the area is clear of hot rocks you can run the same GB settings in disc as you do in no motion. That's kinda rare here in Oregon but this field has some good dirt.Typically the GB setting for disc is 1/8 turn CCW but like I said-this coil runs better than my other 2 at max settings.

When you find a small target in no motion you can easily tell if its deep as the audio is saturated. Also the coins tend to have a tight sharp edge to the sound. Whereas iron is very loud/large & blurs easily.
I switch to all metal motion wich has target ID-nice large scale 1-199 . Even very deep targets will ID close if you are dead on top of it & give it a even sweep over it.The only complaint I have with this machine is the no motion all metal gives no target ID or probable depth. But the audio is good enough as far as depth goes & deep targets never ID well anyhow.

I am learning the targets that don't "improve" with sweep speed are typically foil/iron or very small junk. I got a BB today as an example of how sensitive it is in the no motion all metal mode-about 3" down!.

Better targets tend to ring higher in the id when sweep speed is increased. And I'm talking very deep targets with horrid ID-I was getting an iron to nickle bounce on a 7" quarter in rocky soil. But it high toned on fast sweep directly over the target.

Strangely enough I have had several nickels & a gold ring-thin one @5"-all gave solid high tones. Zincs will wander all over the ID but in this area I'm diggin everything & then some.

------------------

Now here's another thing about the Discovery 3300
The machine has a very well placed notch for Gold. From the smallest charm to the biggest ring I had-even all of the gold rings I had in a ball in my hand( before I melted 'em)-would fit in the 1st 2 notches, nickles & pulltabs. I could still disc out screw caps & zincs.

In the real world this setting is very efficient at pulling coins from trash. While I only have one thin gold ring to its credit at these settings-and it rang high tone-I still think I would stand a good chance of not missing anything worthwhile in the disc mode.

In example another school area ballcourt-I pulled some 40's nickles & old keys etc.. from the area. It had been hunted before so I felt lucky getting some older targets.Hoping for better I took the Troy with my 10x12 on board to get at the really deep ones. Frankly it didn't get anything other than what I missed by being lazy.

But conversely the Troy hit a VERY deep horse bit-hand forged & old-right in the same area. My Troy said dig where the Discovery said fergedaboutit-Iron!...

The Troy is the machine I use when I'm feeling fresh & capable. I bought the 3300 for the times I'm not as fit/strong as I should be.I actually prefer the non saturated audio in the disc mode.I get a "beep" on a deep target instead of a whisper. Gets my attention better when I'm tired(I have a sleep disorder so thats common).

I've gone through a few of the Tek/Fisher mid $500.00 units & I prefer the 3300. It tells me whats important when it comes to coins & jewlery with a excellent notch range.I'm finding in some areas the pinpoint or no motion all metal mode is a giant killer-in the E-trac range without the ID reliability.
I loved the Tracker 4 thread where the designer chimed in-I'm getting one as it sounds like my kinda machine!...I hope he can give me some background on this machine. Also if there is a trick to the 10 1/4 coil vs the normal 10" coil or I just got lucky with this one...
