Discovery 3300 at the beach

This is for those who wonder if the 3300 will work at the beach. I went to Va Beach last night and hunted three blocks. I hunted from the boardwalk to the wet sand. The unit was very stable with no chattering. I did not attempt hunting where the waves wash up, because I know VLF detectors don't like salt water and black sand. That said, I can't imagine any better detector for hunting the dry sand areas. The best thing about it is how light it is. You could swing all day without getting tired. The only down side is finding loads of tab tops and beer bottle caps when setting it to find nickels. Here is my find for the three blocks.

Nice finds!!! HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

Nicely done. I hear so many people say "don't use it at the beach" but you did and it worked. What did you do right that those other people were doing wrong?

I am new to this hobby. I have been looking at the 3300 as a first purchase. I am retired and spend my winters in Florida. I need a unit that I can comb the beaches with. Is this a good choice or should I be looking else where? Thanks for any help.

If you don't want to detect in the water, I don't think you could make a better choice for the money. Percy, on this forum, has one in the classified section for $125 shipped. You just can't beat the performance for the money. The detector is light, so you can swing it all day without getting tired. It uses two 9 volt batteries that will last several trips (if you use headphones). As you see it has no problem finding objects in the dry sand. And Robert, I guess I just didn't know it wouldn't work at the beach. I just turned it on and discriminated out nails and hunted. I know some look down on the Bounty hunter detectors, but I have been very pleased with the Discovery performance. Especially for the price of the detector. There are certainly better detectors out there, but very few that work any better at this price range. And for those who think I am pushing Bounty Hunter, I also use a White's and two Garretts and like their performance as well. There is a place for each in my hunting accessories.

Very Nice haul for being near salt water....Looks like you had yourself quite a day at the beach...WTG!!!
Been way to hot and humid here to go out for any length of time...most of us up here in the NE are staying in the AC for the time being...Hope this stuff lets up soon, not that I am complaining...I would rather have the sun than the snow...Had one nasty thunderstorm here yesterday...Only lasted about 15 minutes, but Very intense rain, winds, and lightning...Rain was coming down horizontal for a while, and lightning was ground shaking....I think we had a twister go through, but I think they are saying no, just so insurance companies will pay out on pollicies...Noone expects Tornadoes up here, so most insurance companies do not even offer coverage...a Lot of damage in our neighboring Oswego County here in NY....

I'm with you. I have the MXT and The Ace 250. If I find a GOOD deal on
one of the better BH's I'll give it a shot. It's obvious from just looking at some of the
finds peple are making that BH's are just as good as some of the OTHER MD's
out there.

We have lots of yards sales going on here but so far I have not seen ONE
metal detector for sale.

The one area the Bounty Hunter Machines will not beat some of the other brands is in Gold Nugget Detection, and also salt water use...Gold nuggets are hard to find at extremely low frequencies...The Bounty Hunters operate at 6.6kHz...Gold is best found with a detector that operates at 14kHz or slightly higher....Other than this, the Bounty Hunter machines are relic and coin magnets....You can go behind someone with a more expensive detector and often find lots of stuff they missed...I often do it just to see the disgusted looks on their faces...It is a blast...Just know when to quit while your ahead, or you might become the next guys find after you have been pounded into the sand...lol...

What you can't do at the beach is GROUND BALANCE on wet sand or operate on ALL METALS. However, you CAN detect on wet sand as long as you are on DISC.
