discovery 2200 or 3300

I was woundering if I would be better off buying the discovery 2200 or spending about $100.00 more and getting the 3300. I currenlty have been using (borrowing) the 1100 and like it and use mostly for finding coins. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have the Elite 2200 which I understand is the same machine as the Discovery 2200. I think very highly of it.

Does the Discovery 3300 have infinitely variable controls (knobs you can rotate) or discrete levels you run up or down using membrane touch buttons?

I have thought that having infinitely variable controls might be a plus, however they are more likely to allow moisture and dust to enter the machine.

The 3300 Discovery has one turn knob for ground balance.
Touch pad features are Disc, and all metal.
Pin point, - Zap - Notch
Depth indication and battery indicator
Sens up or down and disc up or down
I,ve had mine for three years and other than sending it back on warranty for a wire that got unsouldered inside its a good unit.
This is the unit I loan a newbie I take on hunts.

I purchased a 3300 this spring. I picked mine up at cabela's for $199. I don't know if they still have them or not.

I like my machine a lot

Not to get anyone mad at me but have you thought about getting the Garrett Ace250. I am a bounty Hunter man myself, but got a great deal on a Ace 250 and I have to tell you that I haven't put it down since. I still love my Bounty Hunters, but this ace is killer on coins. Its only around $200 new. Go check it out before you buy anything else. Read all the reviews on the forums and you will see that this machine is held in high regards. Buy one I bet my 505 that you will love it and not want to put it down. Sorry to get off topic but just wanted to chime in.

The discovery 2200 is a great machine , I used one for many years and found some great items with it. The 3300 is , from what I can see, a step above. It has a few more options over the 2200. If you can afford it, I think the 3300 would be the way to go between them 2. The pinpoint option on it, over the 2200 is worth the extra money itself. But is not something absolutly needed, all up to the user.
After using the 2200 for years I was going to upgade to the 3300 when I stumble across a great deal on a Garrett Ace 250. Like bounty hunter said ,it is also a great machine and does have pinpoint.
They,3300,ace 250, are in about the same price range or at least not a huge difference. Its really hard to say. I think you would be happy with any one of the 3.

I know that didnt help much, lol. But to answer your question,IMO the 3300 is the way to go.(In your post, you did not ask about the ace) There are so many machines out there, could go on with this forever There is no answer in stone. But out of these 3,,, any one of them will hang with the best.
Good Luck

i have had the chance to work with both:bounty: machines while the 3300 has more functions i found that my 2200 was easier to use
as far as the pin point option on the 3300 think i would invest in a pin pointer
hope that helps

Does the 3300 have some kind of VDI numbers???? It would be nice to know the difference between the pull tab and nickle.

The Disc.3300 has VDI numbers,,
The manual shows what the numbers could represent..

How useful are VDI numbers? My 2200 has ID pulltabs in the silver/copper range, so I doubt a machine could definitively differentiate between a pulltab and a nickel.
