Disassembling/Repairing a Fisher F4

dr.yobbo

New member
Hi there everybody
I am only new to Fisher forums and asking for some help.
My Fisher F4 has had a few problems and I reckon i have wasted enough money on it so rather than pay for postage back to the US to have it repaired under warranty I thought i might have a go at it myself, but with no obvious screws i thought i had better ask if anyone knows how to pull apart the F4.
Any help appreciated,thanks

Alernatively ,if anyone wants to buy an F4 with a faulty discriminate button give me an oy

on either side of the controls....but you didnt hear it from me!!!
I think it will probably void your warranty if you mess with it, but thats your call.
Streak!

attempting to remove the stick on face plate to get at the screws will destroy the face plate. I'm sure at the factory they just remove it & replace it with a new one on re-assemble. I remember destroying my RS 3300 trying to get it open.

Hi, you didn't state what country you're from but your authorised dealer should arrange the warranty repair for you. It would be such a shame to mess with the face plate and make the machine less usable / saleable. Good luck!

HERE IS WHAT I DID , WITH YOUR FINGER RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE OF THE FACE FELL THE SCREWS MAKE A SMALL CORNNOR SLIT AND REMOVE THE SCREWS AND THE FACE PLATE WILL COME OUT, THIS WILL NOT DESTROY THE FACE PLATE, WHEN YOU PUT IT BACK GO TO A HARDEWARE STORE AND FIND 2 SS FINSHING WASHERS THEY WILL COVER THE SLITS YOU PUT TO GET OUT THE SCREWS AND THEY DON;T LOOK BAD AT ALL DENNIS IN NY

I wouldn't advise opening the unit. It will void your warranty, and if something else were to happen that you are not capable of repairing, you will for sure have to pay more along with the shipping just to have the unit fixed. Give our Repairs Coordinator, Felix Calvillo, a call. He may be able to work something out for you. You can reach him at 1-800-685-5050 ext. 118. If you are not sure who your dealer would be, go on ahead and give us a call for that as well. We have our international dealer, Masten Wright, who knows all about who the international dealers and repair centers are. If anything, I'll post their number and contact tomorrow. But please, you'll be risking so much more for your detector if you even open it up.

thanks for your answers guys.I think Fisher customer service made sense though ,if I play with it now and void my warranty to fix this problem ,what happens in the future when another component fails?.......and i am sure it will ,with 3 faults out of the box this unit must have been built on a Friday arvo.Still i shouldn`t complain, even with postage back to the States it is still a hell of a lot cheaper than buying it here in Oz ...........pity ,cause it is an excellent detector but i think when i upgrade it wont be to another Fisher, but then again, I am very impressed with their appearence on this forum, hmmmmm what to do?Well I supposse I`ll have time to think about it while my machine travels around the world and back.
Thanks for all your responses to my original post.

Ended up sending the machine back to the states for warranty and Kellyco were AWESOME,!! sent me back a brand new machine in no time at all (THEY EVEN PAID THE POSTAGE!!)
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO LEILANI AND TONY AT KELLYCO
