DIRTY TRICK

the other day I hunted one of the most popular beaches in my area. During the summer this beach is SRO every day. In the past I've done much as $20-$25 a day here. Shortly after I started swinging the other day, I started to get targets on every swing, sometimes multiple targets. The only problem was that there was almost never anything in the scoop. I'd still hear the targets but didn't dig anything up. Well I looked closer and discovered that there were copper BB's all over the beach. I tried different areas but still found the BB's. The whole one block beach front was covered in BB's like someone just threw handfuls and handfuls of them all over the place. The beach is basically useless for a long time to come. somebody out there must hate us. Talk about sowing your neighbors field with salt. I'm trying to figure out a way to get rid of the little so and so's to get the beach producing again. any suggestions? Ed

You need to get a plastic mesh thats small enough to not let them pass thru .Line your scoop with that.Gonna be a pain in the back tho thats for sure..I wouldnt think someone did it on purpose tho ...I hope not anyways. maybe you could scoop them and dump into a bucket?? You could Discrim them out depending where they hit.Good Luck.

I seem to remember that BBs are copper coated steel which could be picked up with a magnet!

No such luck if they are pure copper, but then in my 68 years I have never seen a solid copper BB!

Good luck Friend and keep us posted!

Yeah Tide...Cup is right. Get yourself a very strong Earth magnet and put it inside your scoop. If its BB's they'll stick right to it

And everyone is right. I would get a VERY powerful earth magnet on a string. If you get a signal try the magnet first. All BB's are steel with a copper coating that I have ever seen. BUT since the area is covered with them I would go with the magnet before I tried ot dig. My 2

Depending on where you are located, it may be copper plated steel shot from waterfowl hunters.

[size=large]Don't detect this area but keep an eye on it. If you see someone detecting there and is having no problems I'd go and talk with them and ask them how come they aren't finding the BB's. Chances are that they may (and I emphasize the word 'may') have salted that area with the buckshot.

You could also check out which machine they are using that doesn't pick up the BB's.

I could hunt that beach all day long with my BHID 300 and never know the BB's existed.

The culprit will have a discriminating machine.

I live in Dallas so it's not me.

doing it and get it on video! littering=BIG FINE!!!!!!!

If I really wanted to hunt the beach, I'd use a neodymium magnet to suck 'em up. I've got one mounted on a three foot handle.

That sucks... I was thinkin of this thread 2 nights ago when I hit the beach for a low tide night hunt. I was gettin penny after penny probably 40 or so and they were all new. Then I started thinking someone thru a bunch of pennies out there. Then moved and another pocket but started gettin quarters one after another along with assorted change. I went back the next morn to hunt a lil before I went back home and I could see a small depression that has washed out and piled up all the clad. Goin back this weekend and find the gold...

The RITZ-CARLTON in Naples Fla. throws BB's on thier Beaches to keep people off the beach with MD's . All you have to do is tune out the BB's. By doing this you can still fine the Gold and the coins.I have an Infinium LS and can do this. The person that is throwing the BB's more than likely doesn't have a MD and thinks it's fun watching you play in the sand.So the next time your out watch and see who is watching you.If this person shows up more than once ,then maybe he or she is your BB thrower. Happy huntting Ron Lord Naples,FL.

While at the Daytona Beach Hunt this past April, I went out the morning of the second day and was detecting the hunt area prior to it being seeded. I found over 40 pennies and more than 50 small pieces of aluminum foil that had been cut in strips and carefully folded into square shapes which were about 1/4 in. on a side. Some of the foil had been rolled into BB sized balls, all of which would fall through the scoop. These were found all along the start line and into the hunt field 10 feet or more. There were no flags or markers showing the edge of the field until the planting started so the only person who would know the start line would be another hunter, sadly to say!! The rest of the beach was clear. It seems that some people will go to no end to work the odds to their favor. I reported what I had found to the organizers and they announced it to the group before the hunt began. Lloyd
