Dirt out of coil

Clear works the best and is applicable whatever color the coil is. Sort of a sem-permanent fix that can easily be removed but if done correctly can be a permanent fix so make sure your cover the edges completely....

:detecting:I think it's just as easy to take the coil cover off and wipe it clean with a damp cloth:sadwalk:

If you do a good job its permanent...and taking cover off and on may damage it or make it loose after a while..Highly applicable to salt water beaches where a few swings can cause coil to have enough salt sand in it to make your unit noisy from the get go....

I agree to this message, I had big problems down the beach, my Explorer was always sounding off until my husband put silicone all around the cover i have never looked back.I wanted to keep the cover on for protection.

Regards Maureen (Thirdbornau)

I definitely think I am going to do this with all my coils. Seems every two or three times I go out with my SE, it starts to act up and become erratic, then I take off my coil covers and find dirt and moisture, wipe it clean and wallah she works perfectly again. Really necessary at the beach almost hourly.

Just read this post and went out and got my SE and pulled the cover off. I know this too.... and its just one of the variables that I've ignored.

I've been playing with my settings and the last time I went out relic-ing I couldn't get it to calm down. So, I've been scratching my head trying to backtrack what I did or didn't do.

Well...I just went out to my shop and checked and.... sandy dirt.....lots of it. So... I cleaned it and went out to my front yard and problem is gone .... my first signal was rich and I pulled a 1913 Wheat at about 8".

Thanks for the reminder..... and you know everytime I get on one of the minelab forums on findmall, I see the warning from Minelab as I cursor down. Duh!

Don't use pure silicone...it kind of peels back a little and traps dust between the coil and the silicone edge. Which kind of defeated the purpose. I'm just gonna take my cover off and clean them everytime I start to hunt, like putting on your tool belt.

That's basically what I said in my post on 20 mar 07
