Dire Need of Help with My F70

New member
First of all, I have 35 years experience with detecting and never had to send a detector back for repair. Now, I purchased a new F70
in July, 2008. After three trips back for repair, Fisher just sent me a new F70, that I received yesterday, Friday, April 12. Today I put the new one together, turned it on and the meter is stuck at the reading of "90" and I can't get the "Menu" button to work. The plus and minus buttons will move me from program #1 to program #2, but the menu button will not allow me to move into any other
modes. I have changed the batteries and reset the machine four times and it is still stuck in program 1 or 2. If the batteries were installed improperly, the detector wouldn't turn on, but it does turn on. What am I doing wrong. Please help!!! This is not a bashing
message. I have used Fisher products my whole detecting career. I still have a CZ70 Pro and a CZ3d that are amazing detectors.

Just a fluke.Call Felix and ask for a call tag pickup on the faulty new product.. Explain your situation.

Here's Mike Scott's cell phone number < 915-667-2225 >.

Of dirt will get in between the edge of the button and side wall. Blew it out it still would not work. Slid the pointed edge of a razor blade between the edge of button and the edge of the wall ran the point of the blade all the way around and Damn if things did not start to work right. Figuared a pice of grit got between the side of the button and the edge. I never hunt with out my cover on. Never. :D: :D: HH Jerry aka Tinfoil

Hey Tinfoil, I never had this unit out of my house yet so there shouldn't be any grit in or around the menu button. Thanks for the reply. I'm wondering if the detector just can't stand the bouncing around in a Fed Ex truck all the way from Texas to where I live in Pennsylvania. After the third trip to Fisher with my original F70, it acted the exact same way as this new one that they sent me.
It had the same "90" reading on the screen and the menu button wouldn't allow me to move on to the other modes. The "MENU" button works in conjunction with the "GROUND GRAB" button in order for me to "RESET" the detector. The number "88" shows up on the screen after a reset for a few seconds, but then the 90 comes back on the screen and I can't get out of Program #1 using the menu button. I can't wait until Monday to start making calls to First Texas. Thanks all of you for your suggestions. Dave.

Don't know what I was thinking. My F75 Menue button sticks. I had to rename my F75. Since it has been back to Fisher so many times and has even been replaced once. I just call her "Roady". Since she has made so many road trips to the factor for different repairs. The battery box is still messed up but I just hunt with it anyway. Still one of the very best detectors I ever owned. I really love it when they say it won't hunt on a black sand wet salt water beach. It just cracks me up. I  everytime someone says that. Your F70 will hunt there to you just have to know how to set it up. Well back to you F70. Do you feel a small slight give when you push the button. I say it is stuck. Don't mess around anymore with those you been talking to. Like BB said call Mike Scott. When I have a problem I call him. Like someone else said have them send a UPS or Fed X Call tag so you don't have to pay for it. Roady and Mike are best buddies. Roady is always fixed when it comes back though. I got to get this battery box fixed though. This will be the 3rd time back for that. I probley got 2800 to 3000 hours on "Roady". Maybe they will replace it again. I can deal with that. I got to send in my CZ3D it is not IDing right in Salt. Enhanced works great. Ok I am out of here and back lurking. Hope you get her fixed. Sorry about the screw up. :D: :D: Hell I am old and hunt to much. Need to read the Post better. OK Back to LURKING :D: :D: HH Jerry aka Tinfoil

Also check the batteries and make sure the springs are setting flat on the bottom of the batteries and not slid over to the side of the batteries. I seat mine with a knife blade and make sure they are setted right on the bottom. Ok Out of here. :D: :D: Luck to you HH Jerry aka Tinfoil

Thanks for your comments Tinfoil. I do appreciate them. My menu button isn't stuck because as I mentioned, it works when I press the Menu and the Ground Grab buttons, then turn the detector on, it does Reset and the number 88 comes on the meter for a few seconds, but then, the #90 comes on the screen and no matter what I do, I can't get out of the #1 program mode into Disc,
Speed, Sensitivity or any of the other modes. Dave.

I sent mine back twice. Each time it came back with more problems than I had when I sent it. I made a deal with my dealer to let me have one off the display which was ok. Now I have a little problem but am afraid to send it back. It may have more problems than when I send it to them......Jack
