Dimes VS Quarters

I have had my CZ3D since they came out and still haven't developed an ear for telling a dime from a quarter. The dime appears to hit harder than a quarter. Any tips?

Hey Mac, I normally do. I was with a friend in a high coin producing location. We sort of got into a little competition on who could find the most in dollar value. There were quarters/dimes everywhere and he was eating me alive with his BH3300.

I'm with Mac, dig them both. A quarter, though, does have a "bigger" sound and will hit harder, particularly, at shallower depths.

oh Man, Don't let someone out shoot you with a machine other than another Fisher. The CZ5 is one of the best coin hunters on the planet. If you practice with the pin point, back and forth, take it away quick and try again, you can usually tell the difference in size. Although the old larger 2 liter type bottle caps read exactly like a quarter. Good luck, and post those finds after you whup your buddy. Jerry

The quarter has more of a dull sond, steal hi tone but duller. And if you get in a lowcation that has bottle caps, the only thang to do is dig the deep targets. Silver coins most of the time will be in hi tone but dull because they are deeper sometimes. A good set of head phone do help, I use Koss. Hope this helps

No problem on total coin count but IDing those quarters VS dimss is a little tricky. I kill him on total coins but $ value is another matter. This will stop when we get the quarters cleaned out and we start adding dimes to the count.
Thanks

That is what I found. Quarters just don't hit as hard as dimes. I could use a new pair of headphones.
Appreciate the feedback.

Quarter just covers more area than a dime, in coins all can usually tell a silver coin from clad or wheat penny as the audio is just mellow..I do hate those darn wheat pennies but good indication if silver coins are around..Doesn't come overnight and not 100 percent effective but personally doesn't matter as I will take a dime or quarter every time....Good pair of headphones will help....
