Ok, i have an Ex2, with WOT, 8inch, 10 inch, joey coils and sunray pinpointer. I just bought a place at the beach am thinking that much of my metal detecting time will be at the beach. So, i'm wondering if it would be to my advantage to buy an Excal and sell the Ex2? Could i use the Excal for land hunting or is it just too heavy? Or would i just be better off keeping the Ex2 and being careful not to get in the water too far? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh and having both is not an option right now. New house, recent wedding, and beach house....the higher power would snap!

The Explorer II does very well at the beach. If you can only have one, I would wrap the control box on it and be careful. Me, I like having the "right tool for the job", so I hunt the beach with the Excal and the land with the Explorer II or my CZ-70. Mostly the Explorer II now though, CZ as the backup. Now you COULD land hunt with the Excal. But I would think you would want some kind of target ID capability other than the tones, like a meter. If your hunting will be 50/50, I would keep the Explorer II. Or maybe you could sell the Explorer II and get a used Sovereign and a used Excal, in nice shape? Might have to kick in some extra cash...

Thanks Mike. I'm thinking about trying to sell some fishing equipment or a coil or two from the Ex2 to compensate on buying a new Excal. Gotta get creative or start winnin a lot more poker money!:)

I have a CZ-20 (good machine but I should have gotten the Excal) and an Exp II. I use the Exp II almost exclusively at the beach. I just do the packed sand down to the shallow surf and make sure I wear a bungee harness (just in case).

Someone suggested using that new press and seal wrap around the machine. I think that'll work real well. I'm going to put some clear Saran wrap over the screen and use the press and seal stuff to hold it down and seal off the control box from any splashes. Doesn't water proof it but it'll help protect it...

Great idea! Thanks!

be sure and plug up your exp II shaft with some silcone to keep the wave water from rushing up and when u pick it up to get it away from a the big wave that is about to get u.

exp II works great on the beach.....................not so hot with the wot in the waves - ok,but get some chatter...................maybe your beach will be different, might work great. (wot)

good luck :) :)

Thanks GD. I'm gonna try to see if i can scrounge up enough cabbage for a used Excal. Might need to sell a few Ex2 coils though. I can swing about $700.00. if you know of any please let me know.

Thanks!

If your credit is good and you get those pre-approved, no transfer fee, no interest for a year offers, buy it on one credit card and then transfer it to the 0% interest card. If you can't pay it in the year then transfer it again to one of those "offer" cards.
I've done it successfully, you have to watch the billing cycle and the pay off date stuff or they nail you with the interest if you don't pay it in time according to their technicalities. My rule is pay it or transfer it after 10 months to play it safe.
I figure that the credit card companies nail some unfortunate souls 21.8% interest so I don't feel bad using the credit card company money for free. I bought my Excal this way. I have an explorer and it didn't like the wet sand or salt water at all. The excal is smoooooth in the salt water and wet sand.

Good Luck, George

Thanks George. I may do that or i may sell some of my other goodies on ebay. Gotta see what i can scrounge up. Thanks for the advice guys!
