Digital vs. 35mm

Hello all;
I have been taking photos for years. I have a good Minolta 35mm, and a new Sony DSC-F717 Digital. My question is, don't 35mm film take a better picture? I think the digitals are ok, but have much more capabilities because of the comupter and software programs avialable. Is this correct?

Hey guys;
Don't anyone have a opinion? I am the dumb guy with a question on quality, 35mm vs. digital, have both.

It depends on who you talk to.
There are some purists out there who still won't budge off of film.
We love it. The key is leaving how to manipulate a digital file.

I like it and use it alot....It replaces my Canon 35 MM of many years. While I like the digital cameras I find myself with a million pictures on the pc and very few printed. I've finally burned a bunch to the CD's so I don't loose them.
Software programs make up for a lot of mistakes for sure that I make and thats become and enjoyable part of it. I have about 7 different programs and each has a feature I like, but I have not found one that has it all but osme are pretty close.
They claim that 3 mega pixels is equal to a 35mm for quality. It appears with a very good lens, but a lot of the entry level digitals have pretty lousy lensing on them. For sure they are improving all the time.
Good luck with your new camera...
