Digital Verses Smart Screen

For those who own the Explorer 11, do you find that using the digital mode gives you more accurate id of targets, or is the smart screen still the way to go? I am considering buying a new Ex11 if the digital works better than the smart screen. Also how deep do you generally get before the numbers start jumping all over the place and become pretty much useless? I do realize that using tone is the best way to ID , but I still like to use either of the two meters in combination with tone. Thanks for any advice. Ken

Hi,I personally use smart screen and my ears.
If in doubt I use digital prior to digging.
Generally if it sounds good I dig it as over here it is possible to miss small silver hammered coins for ring pulls etc.

I only use smart screen, I find it easier to remember where on the screen targets display, then trying to remember a hundred combo's of numbers.. also seems to make it easier when the ID is jumping around.. hard to see a set of numbers for a split second, but where the crosshairs jump to is easy

using digital can tell you exactly what coin is below
with no guessing required.
if you get a 00-28 or 02-27, or 02-28 - you know you have a quarter or a quarter sized coin below. i got this reading at 10" on a 1783 copper that was just a little bigger than a quarter.
10-05 is a nickel etc.
I can just look for dimes or quarters where I know there is silver. it's lot easier than looking at boxes jumping around the screen - least for me it is.
I'm not the only guy finding silver with digital. It's well worth investigating if you have an open mind and can think out of the box.
I think anything deeper than 11-12" will probably jump around some on readings. Course I've only used EX II for 2 months but I've been metal detecting for
20+ years.

If it's deep I have a habit of only caring if it's repeatable... One good dig and if it's not something tiny at the top I'm even more interested... Guvner..

not that much. Besides, it's not hundreds of combinations, you memorize only a few close combos (and tones <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)">) that ferret out the real goodies. And if it's off by a number or two on either side, I'm digging it anyway and I'm sure you would too. BTW, I've found that even though the numbers do bounce around a little, particularly at greater depths, my Exp-II seems to "lock" it's most accurate reading on the target when I switch to pinpoint. Of course, if you don't use PP, this won't help much. HH.

Does it? seems if it does in digital it should also in smart find... I guess I learned something myself if so
