Digital readings for Civil War bullets and buttons

There seems to be a lot of good information here dealing with coin shooting. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for a beginner on relic hunting. I was particularly interested in any information that you might be able to share for using the smart find digital mode and the Explorer's numeric readings that one would get when locating a Civil War bullet or a button. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, and Happy Hunting.

For civil war bullets, just get a piece of lead like a sinker and check what that reads. I have found buttons to read from 4 to 28 depending on the alloy.. Not too much help but that is the way it is..

Tough to say where they will all read.. depends alot on makeup of the buttons.. I tested a few of mine and most coat sized come in around 21-24 range, cyffs in the 7-8 range.. the bullets seem to be pretty steady at around 23-24 for the 59 tp 69 calibers.. I am sure they will go down as they get smaller.. one thing about lead it has a real sweet soft tone that is unmistakable after you hear it a few times....
