Digital Camera Recommendation

I am wanting to pickup a digital camera. I've got a couple of box cameras but time to get a digital.

Can anyone recommend a good camera. Or identify what I should look at with respect to a digital camera.

What brands are good? What kind of price can I expect to pay?
