Digi Search Meter on the G T..............

Mark ( ohio )

Well-known member
Just checking on what #'s your using for the calibration test??? The manual suggest 170 for a quarter......... Are we going with this........ or using something else.. If I remember the nickle rang 136.. is that about right also??

What do you guys think??

Mark ( ohio )

I calibrate a quarter at 180 before I start my hunt.... so all dimes / quarters are 180..... nickles come in at around 146..... zinc's at 177 ....if the zinc's are crusted they will VDI at numerous numbers so you don't know what your digging ... modern tabs come in around 151 ... good luck

Yes, that's a Minelab misprint to calibrate to 170. I think they did that to not "copy" the other meters that were popular saying 180 on a dime or quarter, after Minelab left the somewhat unpopular 540 (or is it 550?) meter that was too jumpy to most due to too high of resolution. 180 is what you want to calibrate to. In fact, I beleive (if I can and the post is open) I'll post to the Sovereign meter stocky to calibabrate to 180 on the meter and ingore the manual. If I can't...

Ron...can you add that to the meter sticky???

EDIT...Ron, I found that sticky was still open so I posted that bit of info to it.

Mark,Critter was correct, there is a misprint in a couple of manuals. Most meters I calibrate I'll use a US dime or my wedding band which comes in at 167 when the meter is calibrated correct..Thanks Ron

Here's another trick with the DigiSearch meter. When the machine resets here and there (you'll know when it happens as the threshold also resets) the meter will read -506 if it's been calibrated to go 180 on a dime or quarter. At least for my Digisearch meter that's what it should read (-506), so I almost would never lay down a dime or quarter and just adjust the meter when the machine resets so it reads -506. Other brands and such of meters might have their own specific number they should read when resetted like that, so just note what the negative number is and start adjusting to that. Beats bending down to pick up a coin I used.
