digging tools

I was wondering if the minelab digger is as good as the lesche digger as I am looking to purchase a good digger.

I don't think you can beat a Lesche 85! Actually, I think they are officially known as Predator Tools by George Lesche. Virtually unbreakable. The only "modification" I have is replacing the stock cordura sheath with a leather pliar pouch. The reason I did this is so the serrated edges don't hand up when you return the digger to the sheath. And I cut off the bottom of the sheath to let the dirt fall off. JMHO HH Randy

The Minelab digger is too easy to bend out of shape. Get the Lesche and only have to purchase one time!

Predator tools is the place! They really make great diggers. I own 2 of their tools. No issues at all, Beale.

Buy the Lesche and their won't be any questions.

Never used a Minelab digger, but another vote for the Lesche. I have looked at some digging tools called Hori Hori knives which are a Japanese weeding tool. When I did look at them, I decided if I was going to buy one it would be one made in Japan, not some cheap knock-off. I have several Spyderco knives which use Japanese made stainless steels of a couple different alloys, and they have given me excellent service over the years. If my Lesche ever gives up the ghost I'll give one of those knives a go.

Thanks I won't get a minelab one then.

When I ordered my tow Lesche tools I called Predator tools 800 number and spoke to George Lesche himself. Great guy!!! With my order he included a CW bullet which is cool since I'll never dig one of those in Illinois.

So Lesche owns Predator.

I have the Minelab digger with the offset blade, serrated on one side that looks like the Lesche. I am very satisfied with it and like it. It is painted metal and I sarpened the edges.

I do not own any Lesche diggers but I see they have larger shovels also.

I also have a quality shovel digger that I like very much from: WILCOX ALL-PRO TOOLS, Montezuma, IA (Iowa). Somewhat heavy and very solid. Good for wedging and deep digging on homesteads and farmers fields.

Maybe Randy(Digger) could comment on their products since he is also from Iowa if he has one.

David,
The way I understand it is that The Lesche family was squeezed out of Lesche tools, and now do not own it. George then formed Predator Tools, which he runs. As I understand, he has nothing to do with Lesche anymore due to some shady things beyond their control.

Here's a great tool that's alot easier on your wallet than Lesche or Minelab. Got it at Lowes for $13.98 It has a serated edge, great for cutting roots and a sharp straight blade. It even has a "V" at the bottom which is great for deep roots. Has built in ruler to 6" and is made of heavy duty SS, no bending this baby. Good luck!

wyobuck; Those look pretty good. Where in the Lowes store are they located.

i bought a xterra 305 and it comes with a gator digger.
i saw instantly that is too long and it mades the digger weak,so i took a drill and cutted it like 1inch reshaping it like it goes...and the digger turns too much strong so i think willbe very difficult to bend it.
im satisfied with it(if you think that in my country is almost impossible to find a good digger )lol

I have one of the ames pictured above. I like it and that is what I broke ,but I think I will get another one. They work good and they are only 13 dollars. Thanks for the information yall gave me it really helped.
